I think the ban on smoking In barkley square is for the birds. the park belongs to the people of punxsutawey not council. what other rights are they going to take away from us. they keep taking and taking till there won't be social events at all.the people of Punxsutawney need to speak up about their park... let council know they aren't going to run there lives....

Anywhere Children are present, smoking doesn't need to be. If you can't step out of the parks and playgrounds to huff your cancer sticks, then I think there is a problem. I don't want my little ones around smoke, so I feel like this is a good measure.

just another feel good law, that's hard to enforce,, next no bar b q,ing the smoke contains carcinogens,,that are linked to cancer,, or a law making you have sun screen on so you don't get skin cancer,, what a nanny state we live in,,

I hate sitting in my chair for Music in the Park and then someone puts their chair next to me and starts puffing away. They don't care if the wind is blowing smoke my way. To make matters worse, then they throw their cigarette butt on the ground! Or the one who holds a nasty "spit cup" next to me. That stuff stinks too and its disgusting to step in the "leavings" on the ground. Bunch of slobs.

Bruno your argument is not relevant. Socks and sandals may be unattractive but does no physical harm to children and other people. Smoking I harmful to other people who are near it. When smokers sit under the tent at Groundhog festival and puff away, it is disturbing to people who are eating and harmful to those who are seated there to eat their food. In addition the smokers are taking up space to sit and smoke when that space should be limited to those who are eating.
At playgrounds small butts may be something a small child would put in his mouth, and that's just gross.:(
This is a great law for the people in our community who do not wish to be inundated with cigarettes when they go to a community event or playground. Want to smoke in public? Walk across the street and puff away or go to the Eagles club.

California was the first state to enact a statewide smoking ban and that was in 1995. 81% of the population of the US lives under a ban on smoking in "workplaces, and/or restaurants, and/or bars, by a state, commonwealth, or local law.
Studies have clearly established that even a brief exposure to cigarette smoke can cause blood to become sticky and more prone to clotting. How long that lasts after just one dose isn't clearÂ…
Repeated exposures are more dangerous, and can worsen your cholesterol, increase the odds of plaque building in arteries, and raise the risk of chest pain, weakness, or heart attack.

Anyone notice that ever since the groundhog elders decided not to allow people to drink at the groundhog events, that the number of out of town visitors have drastically fallen off.
As annoying as it was, there used to be lots and lots of college kids coming into town and spending their money, at places including the now defunct Pantall.
The news crews showing up on groundhog day now have to lie about how many are at attendance.
This goes to show you all what happens financially when holier-than-thou town retards enact pie in the sky laws.
I think it was banned because too many, like you, complained about all the drunk people.

If the smoke is bothering you, you could always move your chair, walk away, or whatever makes you happy. I am a smoker and i do cross the street whenever im smoking but that does mean there should be a law to force me too.

Do people who smoke even care about the children, youth and adults who can't be around it due to health reasons/allergies? NO! When you are trying to sit at the park during the groundhog festival and have a bite to eat and the person sitting next to you is puffing on a cigarette don't you think the person eating has rights? Well guess what, we do! If you don't like the ordinance then go to council and tell them. They voted to move forward, not to enact it. If you don't like it then go speak your mind in a public meeting. That's what they have to do by law. Hold a public comment meeting for anyone opposed. I wish someone would hold parents and charge them with child abuse for smoking in cars with anyone under the age of 18. Where is a baby's rights when a parent is forcing them to inhale cigarette smoke? Where is a child's rights when a dad or mom flicks a cigarette out the window of a moving car and it comes back in the window only to burn the child? Smokers have had rights for too long. It's time for healthy people to have rights. And another thing, if you smoke, then you best be working to pay for your damn cigarettes! Because I'm tired of paying for your hospital bills when you are diagnosed with emphysema or lung cancer too!!!

You people only look at whats in front of you to fight about. What about all the gmos that you are eating. Better yet feeding your children. Did you know that if you are eating anything that isn't oregon tilth certified, you are harming your body. Start reading you the labels. Look what's in your food, shampoo, plastics, drinks. Until you do that i don't want to hear anymore shit about tobacco. At least it is a plant.

buy your own property....then you have the right to regulate it. taxpayers smoke too! if park has been funded by taxpayer money they should have a voice in this matter.
