I agree wth the part about a waste of our tax dollars.
How many people go there a year?

There aren't any taxpayer dollars being "wasted" on it. It is run by donations and is a private tax exempt organization. If you don't like the lighting let Dr. Kernich know, he is one of the founding members who made it a museum. Why do you people think everything in the Borough is paid for by tax money? We have a lot of things in Punxsy that are supported by private money, like the Historical Society museums, the Groundhog Festival and the Community Center.

No you are in fact wrong.
There were several grants awarded to the "Museum"
It is a total waste of money.
In fact if you look at the taxes those private donations would have generated if claimed as income it is an even bigger waste of money.

Here is just one example of wasted tax dollars.

Rep. Jeff Flake, an Arizona Republican, compared the lame-duck session to the movie Groundhog Day, in which the events of one day are repeated the next day and for days after that. "Every year, it's the same thing," he said. "Congress passes spending bills loaded with pork projects. In fact, this year ... Congress spent $100,000 for the Punxsutawney Weather Museum in Pennsylvania."

Sam you should really know the facts before you start typing lies. Do you work there? Why would you lie about it? What do you have to gain from the weather center wasting our tax dollars?

Well Im sure the owners of those buildings could make them look nicer if they didn't have to pay taxes and got 100s of thousand dollars free.

Nope, I don't have a thing to do with the weather museum, and I was referring to local tax money. They don't get any of our local tax dollars. Just be glad a bunch of private individuals did something with the old building to bring in tourists (who spend their money here). The Feds could have just left it empty until it fell down.

Would you care to enlighten us as to where exactly that grant money the State and Federal government hands out comes from???

Jimmy, I agree with that prie of ownership isn't what it used to be. That's a shame.

Sam there will neer be enough out of town visiters to replace te grant money, the loss of taxes from the private donations being claimed as charitable donations, the loss of real estate taxes because the "museum is considered a charitable organization and the loss of revenue if the would have sold the building outright instead of giving it away to make a 3rd rate side show.
Look up the reviews online and get some out of staters take on the "museum". It isn't pretty.

If you want to talk about waste of tax dollars look right across the street. the new ata building recieved state and some government money to purhase and build their new building and as soon as they got the money they changed their plans.
remember there was going to be a garage for repairs also? well they now have a state/government building, a restaurant, and some office space availiable. how much was tax dollars? i say anything that might bring people here, even once should be embraced.kudos to dr, k and all involved!oh and i also think the lights on the stairs would be nice.

Well upers, Give 2 million and I will guarantee I will start an attraction or maybe a busness that will bring in a few people once.

Your an idiot.
So we shouldn't look at the plan, just hand over money becuse something might bring in a few people once?

Again your an idiot.
Tell me what is the difference between state and goverment money?
It is all our tax dollars.
It isn't unlimited. We need to be wise with any investments. Not invest on "mights"
