After eating at the Laishley Crab House, I have decided that Long John Silvers menu is probably more consistent and of a better quality than this restaurant. The food we had looked like it came straight out of the bag from Sysco. You would think that a company would learn it's lessons from other ventures, such as Harpoon Harry's and try not to serve food that is prepared in Sysco's warehouse and thawed in the Laishley Crab House's kitchen and then put on your plate. Even today, most restaurants associated with buy and serving prepared frozen food from large food service distributors, such as applebees, ruby tuesdays, tgi fridays, hooters, red lobster and olive garden have switched to freshly prepared products. I won't say don't go, but be aware of what you are going to be served before you go.

I totally agree, and I hope you did not pay by credit card because the fee that is charged to a business for each transaction is actually paid for by your server. Does that sound fair? No! I have reported them to the Better Business bureau and also I wonder if Mr. Laishley charges his employees at his marine store each time they check out a customer paying with a credit card? I attended a wedding rehearsal dinner and one of our servers whom we requested did a fine job, however after arriving another girl took orders too and she was a bartender and a 15 year old's order did not even get put in and he had to wait til almost everyone else was done with their meal until our original server found the mistake and hurried it. She was great but guess what? She no longer works there I heard and her service was excellent, so that means one less good server.

It's nicely decorated, but it didn't meet my expectations. I'll stick with the Celtic Ray accross the street.

I went there on Monday, March 1st for my wife's birthday. The food was excellent. So excellent, in fact, that we decided to go back on our last night in Florida. I was eagerly anticipating the appetizer (a dozen of the Laishley Oysters) but when they arrived they were only luke warm and mushy. I reluctantly ate them (they were okay...) The same, unfortunately was true for our food as well. It was barely warm and the texture just put us off the rest of our dinner. The server refunded one of our meals but it was bad enough that I won't return. That's too bad because it's evident that the owner's put much thought (and expense) into the decor. That's what happens when rich people think it's cool to open a restaurant. A great atmosphere with crappy food.

My experience at the Laishley Crab House was wonderful. Great food and ambiance.

My husband and was very disappointed with the food and the service. We always see so many people go into the restuarant and took that as an indication the food must be good. How disappointed we were with the seafood we ordered. The food tasted exactly like a frozen thawed seafood dish. I would think a seafood restaurant on the river would serve fresh seafood. The service was very slow, and the restaurant was not busy, so I wonder how they handle a busy day?

My husband, daughter and I ate there about a month after it opened. I was very disappointed in both tge food and the service. We asked for water when the server came to take drink orders, along with bar drinks. I had to ask two seperate times after the order just to get a glass of water. And I did ask our server because she never stopped by to check on us. Then after we got our meal, which was luke warm, we still never saw the waitress. We sat for almost 20 mins after our meal waiting for someone to bring our bill. Again, we had to ask another server to please send the bill to our table. Finally our server comes out with the bill and leaves even though our credit card was already out and we were well past ready to leave. Ten min later, she came to collect our card so we could pay the bill. When we finally left, 30 mins after completing the meal, our dirty dishes were still sitting on the table. This was a lunch meal and the resturant was less then 1/3 filled. I won't be going back again.

Never again! We originally were going to eat at Benendetto's across the street, but the wait time was almost an hour. We had never tried the Crab House so decided this would be a good time.

For starters, the menu wasn't all that impressive. The waitress, I think her name was Lauren was unfriendly, never smiled and was s-l-o-w. She acted like she would have rather had been anywhere else but at work.

The food took an extremely long time arriving at the table considering the place was only 1/2 full and we didn't order anything complicated.

The food was okay, but nothing to rave about. One person in our party ordered the salmon and did rave about it. Apparently their salmon is very good, but I wish I could say that about everything. All of the sides were barely warm.

The prices were alittle on the steep side, not terrible though.

Another thing I found to be annoying is the sushi bar, My seat happened to be facing it and for a Crab/Steakhouse atmosphere, I was facing a wall with nothing but HUGE, Asian writing and paintings of Sumo wrestlers, etc...I don't see why they added that into their decor. It really distracted away from the seafood atmosphere and that's what they should stick with.

All in all, I would rate it only a 4 out of 10 stars, which in my opinion is NOT enough to make me want to return.

My husband and I eat there once a week or so. We really like the food, the wait staff are very friendly and efficient. We always take our company there who come down from the north. We have never had anyone complain. Besides the food being good, the atmosphere and view are fantastic.

I know exactly who you are talking about. My husband and I had her a few nights ago and she was by far the worst waitress we have encountered. Too bad, we were really hoping for more.

While I was dinning outside with my family a weekend ago, We all watched as the Owner and his friends were caring for a women that was so drunk she was vomiting in the trash can. She also was fed those drinks from the Owner himself and the bar tender... We were mortified to say the least!
The whole wait staff was walking around laughing and making remarks instead of working like mature adults.
I researched the Owner and his management finding out that the Owners Son, was charged with his 3rd DUI this year ( which is the manager in charge )
Wow not a family environment
nor would I support a company that doesn't Care about Drunk Driving and the people that would suffer if a accident would relate to there delinquent service.
If I was vindictive enough I would try to close all the smuggler's enterprise restaurants down, which would decrease the amount of under age drinking and embarrassment for other family's trying to enjoy there dinner.

DISGUSTING!! I would have refused to pay for my meal having witnessed that.
I'm glad I read this column because I have been wanting to eat there some night.
Not anymore.
A nice view isn't worth bad food and bad service.

My daughter took me there for my birthday a few months after it opened. She was eager for some fried shrimp and I for some algratin or stuffed fish. The only shrimp on the menu was in a pasta dish. The menu was not at all what you would see or expect in a seafood resturaunt. Our server was good and the atmosphere was very nice. I ordered catfish, it had no taste to it, she got the shrimp pasta dish, not a lot of taste there either. We ordere their special appitizer, which if I rember was a bread bowl with dip in it. It was not to bad. I was really disappointed because I love seafood and thought it would be great to go somewhere that would have fresh seafood in Punta Gorda. In there defense I do know they buy their crabs from local crabbers. I got the best fish dinner at Jack's in Punta Gorda and they are not even a seafood resturants. I hope they will try and listen to the public and get real seafood and learn how to prepare it correctly.

was there 6/5/10
Great view of the harbour, but everything else was a disappointment.
The waitress and the food didn't come close to meeting my expectation.

I would sooner eat the dead stuff that washed up around the fishing pier then ever eat there again.

Over priced food and drinks, and a waite staff that would not last a week at a Walmart deli.
Cross the bridge to the north and buy a Seven Eleven hotdog. It is cheaper and much more better tasting.

The owner lets his dog walk on the outside bar, an eating surface...what an utter buffoon.

Have some class Ron Evans.
