It does not mean that we must exclude everything that came after and it does not mean that the Gov't has no right to regulate highly sophisticated military type rifles in order to keep them where thy belong -- the military! the very first sentence of the Constitution places the burden on the Federal Government to "insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty" for the citizens of these United States. That sentence is the core of a document that has been amended many times since its original drafting to ensure that the government can effectively deliver on that first promise.
And the second amendment tells the Federal Government they can NOT infringe upon the right of The People to keep and bear arms. It's not rocket science.

Liar. Post any proof you can find that supports this bullshit statement.
I meant the Old Right because the Republican party was influtrated by the Democrats in 1960 when the Democratic Party Split into two faction the New Left that took over the democrat party and changed the direction of modern Liberalism and the old left which were the democrats that held onto FDR version of Liberalism and have changed the Republican Party.

Classical Liberalism vs. Modern Liberalism and Modern Conservatism

In the history of politics, there is only one fundamental, abiding issue: It is individualism vs. collectivism. Do individuals have the right to pursue their own happiness, as Thomas Jefferson thought and as the Declaration of Independence deemed self-evident? Or do we have an obligation to live our lives for the community or the state, as most societies have claimed throughout most of history?

Yet if this is the paramount political issue, why is it not forthrightly debated in presidential elections and in other contests for public office? The reason is that American political debates tend to be dominated by modern liberalism and modern conservatism — approaches to politics that are properly called “sociologies” rather than “ideologies.”

Modern liberalism is not completely collectivist; nor is it completely individualistic. It has elements of both doctrines. The same is true of conservatism. Neither view provides a coherent approach to politics, built up from first principles. Instead, they both reflect a process that is akin to picking items from a dinner menu. What is chosen is a matter of taste rather than a matter of thought. Just as people with similar tastes in food tend to frequent the same restaurants, people with the same tastes in politics tend to vote for the same candidates.

What that leaves us with are candidates, platforms and political parties whose ideas are inconsistent and often incoherent. The thoughtful voter may sometimes vote for the conservative, sometimes for the liberal and sometimes just abstain.

The classical liberal perspective will not solve this problem, but it will help us better understand it.

Why don't we see what the Founders had in mind with regards as to what type of weapons the "People" should own?
"Who are the militia? Are they not ourselves? Is it feared, then, that we shall turn our arms each man against his own bosom. Congress have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an American...[T]he unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state governments, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people."
--Tenche Coxe, The Pennsylvania Gazette, Feb. 20, 1788
Pay particular attention to this part: "Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an American..."
Now what were you saying???

I can comprehend the case pretty well. Let me summarize: Gates came home from a trip. Someone had messed up his front door. He had to break in to his own house. The cops showed up. Gates lost his temper. The cop arrested him for disorderly conduct. The authorities dropped the charges. Gates, the cop, and Obama drank a beer.
I can also comprehend your take on the case. If a cop comes to your house, the cop is the boss, so don't talk back. Period.
Next.
He wasn't arrested for talking back. He was arrested for being irate and uncooperative not to mention making accusations about the cop being racist. Had he just talked back like an adult, the cops would have went away and wished him a nice day.

I see you've been memorizing DumBama's speech the other day. You and DumBama are both wrong. While people do change, the Constitution doesn't. That's why we have an amendment process.

Right. So Limbaugh, Hannity, and O'Reilly are ripping off their talking points from YOU? Maybe you should sue them for plagarism. lol
Maybe others should sue you. After all, how many times do you think we've read this nonsense "You listen to Fox and Limbaugh and Hannity" from other liberals on discussion boards? I can't believe you're all programed that accurately. It's the common BS clause promoted by you lefties.

I'll tell you something else: what makes the left hate Limbaugh and Fox is that they tell the rest of the story. Liberals don't like the rest of the story. Before our media heros came along, all we heard was the lefts version of what was happening in our country and world. You guys loved when your people controlled cable television and the three main free television stations. You loved it when AM radio was on it's way out. But now, the other side is there to answer to. You know, Limbaugh, Fox and Beck. it just kills you guys and we love it.

Well, except for the little fact that passing gun control legislation that will only be followed by law-abiding people will NOT make them safer. Examples: DC, Chicago

It's not against the law to be irate. It's also not against the law to make accusations of racism.(If it were agains the law to accuse someone of being racist, then just about every right winger on this site would be under arrest.)

I think you're just another right wing guy who enjoyed seeing one of Obama's friends get embarrassed. So please, spare me your phony concerns about law and order. If the homeowner had been Tom Delay or Shawn Hannity, you would be screaming that the cop was being a fascist.

I can't speak for all left wingers, only for myself. The reason I hate Limbaugh and Fox is because they lie pathologically, and present a badly distorted view of America. For whatever reason, people like you believe Limbaugh without question, and thus, you believe a lot of things that are flatly false. Limbaugh and Fox are not "telling the rest of the story" or revealing some hidden truth. They are just shilling for a tiny minority of fanatics who have no interest in anything other than their own wealth and power. And they drag guys like you into it by tricking you into thinking you are being victimized by the "takers".

If Rush Limbaugh walked up to you on the street, and grabbed you by the lapels, and started screaming, "You gotta help the richest one per cent increase their wealth! You have to!" you would probably tell him to get off of you, and that increasing some rich guy's wealth isn't your problem. And you would of course be right to do so.

So Limbaugh takes a different approach. He identifies those whom he sees as being in the way of increasing his and his other one percenters' wealth, and he tells you that that person is "taking" something from YOU, and the only way to combat that evil "taker" is by listening to Rush and voting Republican.

Why you guys fall for that, I can't explain.
