Full story: The Associated Press

While the northern Plains and Northeast shiver in dangerously cold temperatures, the folks in upstate New York are keeping warm shoveling snow _ lots of snow.

Obviously the 'global cooling' scientists in 1975 were right to predict that the world is on a cooling trend to another ice age.
Now, 31 years later the truth is coming to light with record low temperatures in North East, West, and South West US.
The fact that 98" of snow fell in upstate NY during few days proves that Al Gore theory about global warming is nothing more than just a left wing liberal socialistic hoax that was planned to collect money from the American rich corporations for the 'poor' of the world.

Global warming is a hoax ..huh??

maybe we will see lots more snow every winter now that the polar ice caps are melting and putting more moisture into the atmosphere.....

did you ever consider that??

Liberals are always saying the Republicans are just trying to scare people when it comes to terrorism. Well that's what the Libs are trying to do with this global warming hoax. Its all about the money.

I would like to point out tha, whereas the end of January and the beginning of February were very snowy - up till that point we were having a relatively mild winter. Also the part of upstate that got dumped on recently - gets dumped on a lot. I used to live in Oswego and saw overnight snowfalls of over 3 feet several times. I also seem to remember the particular area affected getting 100 inches in a weekend once several years ago. We just east or South East of the end of Lake Ontario can get a lot of snow. It doesn't have a whole lot to do with Global warming - it's been like this my whole life and I'm over 50. Parish NY is one city affected and several years ago I had to help dig out a 7 foot drift that was blocking my girl friend;s driveway. We get snow here - sometimes all at once.

Jones – Great argument, except for the fact that you don’t know what you are talking about. Global warming actually makes the planet colder. Remember way back to 7th grade… the greenhouse effect?

Jones, you confuse weather with climate. You remind me of a recent Waterbury Republican editorial in which the global warming doubters compared cow farts to car exhaust, completely missing the most basic 7th-grade science concept of the carbon cycle being fed millions of tons of new carbon now due to burning fossil fuels.

As for the arctic air blowing down on us lately, yes, parts of the earth are still freezing cold even as overall surface heat rises. The effects are not going to be just a slight rise in your local thermometer. New climate patterns will develop based on new ocean currents due to decreased temperature differential between the poles and the equator. Not only will temperatures change but patterns of rainfall will shift with the new ocean and air currents. It doesn't mean there will never be cold air, especially now before the polar ice caps have melted.

Here's a good primer on the energy absorption process, as they describe it, an energy imbalance, meaning new energy levels above those that had sustained the polar ice for the last 10,000 years after the larger ice age had ended. That new energy is being trapped by rising levels of greenhouse gasses from our burning carbon fuels at an accelerating rate the past few centuries and especially decades. This trapped heat energy is what Hansen calls a "forcing agent," melting the polar caps and raising sea temperatures to change our larger climate patterns (and sea levels) in the coming century and beyond:

http://naturalscience.com/ns/articles/01-16/n...

By the way, do you realize the amount of energy needed to take 32F ice and melt it to 32F water is equal to the amount of energy it will then take to raise that same amount of water from 32F water all the way up to 176F. So if you think about how the polar caps and land glaciers are melting, then consider what that new energy will do to our climate in the coming decades when there is no more ice to absorb it....

All the lake effect snow is happening because the Great Lakes have been warmer than usual this winter (Global Warming, dontcha know). Add in an Arctic Mass of cold air and, voila!

It would be OK for you to be an idiot, Jones, it's just that you are trying to spread your willful ignorance like a disease. So get lost.

today? shoveling the effin snow, lol. I am not in Parish or mexico nor even Oswego NY. But it has still snowed about 22 of the last 30 days. To think it was 60 degrees on Jan 6. It is ok Upstate New York is paradise in my opinion. And this is an El Nino year we get more snow in them. This is not global cooling or warming - it is living in upstate NY. Peace.

Of course the great lakes should be frozen at this time of year which would prevent lake-effect snow happening.

So its got nothing to do with global cooling as quoted by jones, you stupid ignorant American
