I think this is sick. "be a tree" ... whatever..
why dont these people bury there loved ones in their own back yard... Yeah, i really want a dead body .. buried 3 foot deep..... this will be great for all the animals in my area to dig up .. and bring to other peoples property... can you imagine.. waking up ,, and seeing a dead corpse in your yard.. not to mention .. they will be buring these people over our main water system...

You are obviously clueless about hydrology. Evapotranspiration will suck up any water a long time before it could ever reach the water table. You need to do a little research.

I have been doing my research ... They are not telling you that they want to bury these people 1-2 feet deep.. not to mention this "burial site" proposal is directly over the main water aquifer... and collins admitted that she is doing this for proffit and proffit alone.. she also refuses to speak to any "black" people in the nearby neighborhood.. stating and i do quote."you people are scarey" .. what kind of person is that.. also, she has not had the epa come out and research the water table.. nor the ground for sufficient "good" bacteria to offset the "dead bodies" ... all they want is money... i tell you what ... let them bury dead people in your back yard.. before you start jumping the gun at me.. do your research... she lives in bonaire,ga.. ownes "summerland group" .. has 6 houses in houston county.. and none of them are listed for business use.. she is a crook...

You don't know what you are talking about. We have more than complied with all state and local regulations. Of course we haven't contacted the federal epa. What need is there when the state and local authorities have already approved it? Of course its for profit. There is no secret about that. They've done immense capital outlay, yet they've cut back their original proposal tenfold. 7500 to 750 burials with a 1000 feet of greenspace on either side of the cemetery. We looked at many pieces of property, including my backyard, and the Davis Road property met the best qualifications. Twiggs County residents should be proud that they have intact Longleaf Pine habitat, and that someone wants to preserve it. That you accuse Beth of refusing to talk to black people is the most idiotic thing I've ever heard. If she said that, which I'm sure you've taken it out of context, I'm quite sure she was refering to some of the residents of Davis Road, not people of any particular race. Lucy....I'm afraid you've been fed some misinformation. And you'd best be careful about what you write about someone. Liable is a serious offense. She may be a lot of things, but racist and crook are not among them.

BTW...I forgot to mention your erroneous mention of burial depth of 1-2 feet. Graves at Summerland Natural Cemetery will be 3-4 feet deep depending on body siz. The less deep grave helps facilitate aerobic decomposition. Aerobic bacteria are those which require oxygen in the decomposition process. This also assists the plants in evapotranspiration. Any liquid contamination would be sucked up by the vegetation long before it could reach the aquifer. But I wonder how many dead animals have been buried over the aquifer, or for that matter, what about road kill? Or howabout those cows walking in the creek? I've seen them with my own two eyes. Talk about coliform bacteria in your wells. That's probably the cause.

I never said "beth" was a racist.. but i guess from your comment about Davis Road.. You all think the residence are scarey... You said it .. i did not.. Yes she did advise one of the black members of a certain community.. which is a black community that "you people are scarey"...She better watch what she says.. out of context or not.. we ar not afraid to get the NAACP involved.. and since the meeting was at a black church that ALOT of NAACP members attend.. then i would not be surprised if they have already been notified..You have not gotten approval yet.. it still has to go through planning and zoning. What about the wild animals in the area that you will be placing dead corpses.. BEAR and WILD HOGS .. and dogs will dig up these bodies.. I can only imagine going outside and seeing a human carcus in my yard.. Not to mention that what was said in the paper about you "target" people of interest..

Hey....old hippies and pagans gotta be buried somewhere. Now we're getting to the real reason you guys don't want us up there. And you have the audacity to accuse us of being prejudiced. ROFLMAO.

Just so you know when you hear the drums. We'll be having several religious leaders come to a ceremony to bless the land. There will be dancing and singing. I'm sure we'll invite the Davis Road neighbors. Please come out and celebrate with us.

Fabulous that you have Bear. There are however, no "wild" hogs in Georgia, only ferral pigs. They may have been born in the wild, but they have an ancestor who was domesticated. I must confess that I can't address what is done to prevent corpses from being exhumed by wild animals, but I'm sure this has been examined by the principle players. I'll see what I can find out, and will report back to you. Check here later, or tomorrow.

In the meantime, blessings of Mother Earth and Father Sky be upon you :)

My research concludes that there are no such occurrances of wild animals digging up the deceased in natural cememteries. It just doesn't happen. Carrion eaters just aren't diggers.

I know better than to say that it could never happen, but the statistics of probability are against it.

Peace to you.

You are so ignorant to the wild life in this area. And if the "party" ever starts for this DUMP.. then you can rest assured that legal action will follow.. we are alot smarter than you think we are.. YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHO YOU ARE DEALING WITH .. I HAVE FOUGHT AND WON BIGGER CASES THAN THIS...

I live on the fall line lady. I've lived on the fall line for 30 years. I am quite familiar with the wildlife in our area. I not only know about the wildlife, but also the flora and the hydrology of this area. I've taken class after class on environmental science. I've had field experiences that have allowed me to do "hands-on" ecological work all over this state.

I also know just how rude you are - a discredit to otherwise very nice Twiggs County people. To refer to a cemetery as a dump is extremely insensitive. But that's okay. I don't need you to be nice to me in order to be nice in return. Jesus taught me that.

So bring on your legal action. If you really want the courts to decide this you'd better prepare yourself for disappointment, because
Science will prevail on this one.

BTW...you may refer to our opening day celebration as a party, but you can be sure it will be as reverent as any church service.

I was merely pointing out to you that the correct term is feral my dear. Swine are not native to North America, therefore, they are considered feral, not wild. Don't feel bad. Most people don't know that.

I'm quite familiar with Bond Swamp, having spent many wonderful hours there. At Summerland, it will be my recommendation(as a naturalist), to eradicate any feral pigs that we encounter. As a part of the preservation and restoration process we will be managing or removing all non-native species on the property. We will of course, abide by all hunting regulations. On other preserves (i.e. Ossabaw and Cumberland Islands, Ichauway Plantation in South GA, and Moody Swamp in Appling County), lottery hunts are held to control populations of non-native species
We're not going into this blind you know. We have experts among us who are advising us on how to manage the land. There will be controlled burns supervised by the Forestry Service. Already we have removed a great deal of loblolly pine, which will be replaced with longleaf pine.

I am amazed at the resistance we are getting to something that will be wonderful for your community. Have you Googled "green burial?" In researching green cemeteries on the web, I'm finding nothing negative about them. Ramsey Creek Preserve in South Carolina has received national praise because of its conservation efforts. They too encountered resistance from their neighbors. Today, one of the neighbors is buried there (in his overalls).

But this is the last you'll hear from me on this page since clearly you think I'm an idiot. Be well. Perhaps in time, we will all be friends. Stranger things have happened.

Thank you .. I do appreciate your concern with nature. However, i have googled "green burial" it appears to be all from a few websites. I have also been researching.. that is what i do... I never go into a situation, without having written legal proof to back my words. I do wish that you would atleast consider the feelings of the neighbors. We will never see eye to eye on this situation .. we can conclude this to agree to disagree..

Phillip, tree-hugging season doesn't begin until June. Lay off the pious juice until then. And please don't say bite me. Vegetarian hippies are too stringy for me.

To "plastic urner" insulting comments get you no where. I think that instead of making fun or speaking badly about "phillip" we should work together. We are a melting pot and should not put down someones beliefs. Ignorance is not a viable cause for being cruel. Respect everyone, and don't take anything for granted. I have said before, that I do not like the "green" cemetery idea. I was never rude or mean. You should speak to someone with passion from the heart. NOt with mean and un-called for comments. We as a community should be a little more sensitive to the matter at hand. "phillip" is just one person standing up for what he believes in. I respect that. More of us should stand up (in an adult, patient, and nice way) for our beliefs. We will not alway get along. but we all have to live together.
