Cherissa is an accomplished dancer and kudos to her for being selected as Miss Aloha Hula. That being said, IMO, all the other competitors were just as good if not better. The difference? Her kumu's name. I mentioned to my wife before MM09 started that Keali'i Reichel would garner awards simply because of his celebrity status. It would be no surprise that the remaining competition put his halau in the top three if not the overall winner. Anyone want to bet a papaya? P. S. I have no connection to any halau nor do I know any dancers.

I think you're right I told my sister who lives on the Big Island that Keali'i Reichel will win overall because of his status...don't get me wrong he is awesome and I love him but my opinion 2nd runner up should have won....but they all were awesome....congratulations to you Cherissa you are a beautiful and graceful hula dancer and I loved watching you dancer...your smile brought out everything in your dancer....

This was a very emotional event, the photograph and selected wording express it magnificently. Let us hope it is the beginning of a renewed Hawaiian Renaissance. Nana i ke kumu.

Thanks..I think all peoples should have pride in their history. But servitude to God is much more important than servitude to culture or race.

Alice, saw you on youtube, dancing ... it was hilarious! You were like a duck, waddling on the dance floor. Although your movements lacked grace, style and flair, your so called dance moves provided much laughter because of your absurb, goofy and awkward movements! Thanks! Now stop being a sour puss, grow up and live as a responsible, likeable adult.

I was there and knew she would win the language award as soon as I heard her. Her kumu has taught her well. Her kahiko was not the top one IMO (I ranked her #3 in kahiko) but when I saw her auana, I figured she would ultimately be in the top 1 or 2 at the end of the evening. She was a joy to watch.

Sedona, AZ???? What's up with that (on my previous post). I'm sitting in Hilo near Prince Kuhio Plaza listening to Aunty Pua sing right now. Long way from AZ!
Ae, I'm on T-Mobile-- maybe that's the reason??
