Disrespectful to Hawaiian culture, what? King David Kalakaua had the first telescope on Mauna Kea so what's so disrespectful now? Instead of protesting how about focusing on getting some Hawaiian kids their PhDs so they can follow in the footprints of the last king and contribute to mankind's knowledge of our universe. Enuf already!

More rubbish on the aina.

No more enough telescopes, gotta make some more?

If you going make ugly, go all the way.

Build a hotel and McDonalds on Haleakala.

Put a Wal-Mart in the Crater Caldera.

It is disrespectful to Hawaiian culture. As well as the natural setting and aesthetic beauty of Haleakala.

Kalakaua was an drunk. He also collected others stories, tales and legends, and then appropriated them, identifying them as his own in his book he took credit for being the author in, "Myths and Legends of Hawaii."

A european import styled "King" playing a role in a form of government, the monarchy, that was NOT native Hawaiian, Kalakaua continued the legacy of the greedy alii that ripped off the commoners in, and since, the Mahele of 1848.

You, advancing commercialization and permanent destruction of Hawaii's limited treasures, like Haleakala, and to use the King-Queen crap to try and pull it off, no longer works.

Now, the PhD sounds good. But you still fail to convince.
