Leroy Garcia is running for City Council District 3!
I don’t know if this is exciting to you as it is to me, but I for one, am really happy to see a fresh face on the political scene here in Pueblo. I had the privilege to meet Mr. Garcia and was immediately impresses with his level headed outlook. I have never been a political activist, and this sounds like a shameless plug, but I have seldom had the desire to pipe-up on behalf of public figures.
The only problem is I live in district 2…so sad.

He has a pretty nice website, its www.leroygarcia.com

I don't live in his District either, but have met Leroy and his family and am VERY excited to see such a dedicated, knowledgeable, caring & intelligent person running. Maybe I'll move to District 3 :-)

He had better learn something about accessibility and demeanor--I worked briefly with him and he is not very friendly or forthcoming. You would think that someone running for office would know how to establish a rapport with people if he wants someone to vote for him.

My personal interactions with Mr. Garcia have been opposite than that described below; I simply wish to present my experience for the consideration of others.

I was a student of Mr. Garcia's at Pueblo Community College for over 4 months that included tens of hours of interaction; my experience with his accessibility and demeanor could not have been more different than that described by the writer Nancy below. Mr. Garcia was very friendly while maintaining an expert balance of professionalism; he was very accessible and frequently reminded his students how he might be contacted. I venture an educated guess that the great majority of my classmates took advantage of the opportunity to visit outside of regular classroom time to consult with Mr. Garcia.

Based on my experiences, I do not doubt Mr. Garcia's ability to be an accessible and friendly public official.

Good evening Nancy,
I can’t recall who you are or when I might have worked with you. Would you like to elaborate where and when we worked together?

I agree with Mark. In the time I have known Leroy I have seen nothing but an extremely high level of accessibility and a delightful demeanor. Thank you Leroy for running!

Vote Leroy Garcia 2009 Pueblo City Council District 3!(That's a mouth full).

Leroy Garcia would be my choice if I lived in District 3.I am old enough to be his grandmother, but I still have a lot to learn about human interactions. Like all the rest of us Leroy's life is a work in progress. We won't make you vote for him, Nancy.

Although I have only known Mr. Garcia for a few months, I have found him to be remarkably friendly and approachable while still being completely professional. While he has many qualities that I believe will make him an excellent public official, two of them stand out for me.
He has the ability to listen to differing views. Even if he does not agree with someone’s viewpoint he listens respectfully and acknowledges the points he believes are valid and then offers his own views. He has the capability of rejecting an idea without rejecting the person. At the same time, he is able to accept new ideas without surrendering his own, but by adapting his views if necessary. I like the fact that his views are neither stagnant nor ephemeral.
The second quality that I find so valuable is the positive energy he brings to situations. He does not simply overcome obstacles, he attacks them. His tremendous “can do” attitude will benefit Pueblo in every way.
Personally, I am delighted with the opportunity to vote for him.

In my experiences there are so few people willing to go the distance to help everyone around him. His attention to detail and never settling for second best had made him an impeccable instructor. We are lucky to have such a down to earth person running here in Pueblo. So few people in the public eye are really still one of the croud, Leroy is. I wish him nothing but the best. Go Leroy!!

Mr. Garcia was a former teacher of mine in the fall of 2008 at Pueblo Community College. Such an open-minded down to earth instructor. Nothing but friendliness and always helpful to me and my fellow classmates. Probably one of the nicest guys I will ever know, Thank you so much for the help Leroy. If I lived in Pueblo, my vote would go for you.

I think you have the wrong Leroy Garcia!? I spent 6 hrs a week for 15 weeks with him and did not have a problem with his demeanor and he was always there if we needed his help. Nancy, try looking inside before throwing out your trash.

My husband took his EMT class this summer and he got the impression that Leroy didn't really care very much about the class. I got e-mail from Tatsue Maekawa about a fundraiser for Leroy. I love seeing a fresh face but after hearing the way he handled his class I'm a little apprehensive about helping out. Outside the class I hear he is very nice. In any event as long as he really does want to make some good changes in Pueblo, I will support him.

"My husband took his EMT class this summer and he got the impression that Leroy didn't really care very much about the class."
After reading the above comment I was immediatley taken back. It's been almost a year since I, personally, had the pleasure to be taught by Leroy. Leroy is committed to seeing his students achieve success and always has time to help them. I firmly believe that if it wasn't for Leroy's dedication, my success would not be possible. My hat's off for one of the best instructors I have ever had the opportunity to enjoy.

Wow you really do have a big place in your heart for the man. There could have been many reasons he was less attentive than normal. I understand he going to the university, teaching classes at PCC, running for city council and has a family. Thats a lot to have on your plate, and a person can only keep up the enthusiasm for so many hours in the day. Most of the comments I have heard are good ones and he's probably a great guy. Never having met him in person I should have waited to form an opinion, maybe I will get to met him at his fund raiser if I decide to go.

It was my husband friend who took the class so it is just hear say, and I don't think he made it through the program. The mac spell check must have took out friend.

I didn't say I wouldn't vote for him--he sounds like a good Democrat, so he will likely get MY support!

To Nancy and Angie I am insulted that you would speak negatively about my husbands character or dedication when you do not know him.

Angie I have been there night and day and have seen the dedication my husband has showed to his students. He's stayed late in the evenings and spent weekends helping his students so they may succeed. He has missed political events because of his dedication to students. Once again I would know this because I have represented him in those meetings so that he may help students that need him. You may know this if you read the local newspaper "The Chieftain" and followed up. Have you ever heard the saying that you can only help someone who is willing to help themself? And going off hear say only makes you look bad. My husband has more than enough room on his plate and will do amazing.

And Nancy do not talk bad about someone until you have the facts straight. My husband is an incredible person. With All of things he does we still find time to volunteer at our local soup kitchen, send care packages to soldiers over seas, and not to mention the countless neighborhood projects that we have helped with. My husband is a Marine that served our country. Leroy still has a passion to serve his country and his community, that is why he's running for a political office.

My husband and I have a passion, as well as dedication to Pueblo. For those who doubt my husbands dedication, ability to interact with humans, or even plate room need to learn more about my husband before speaking.
