All pipelines, specially oil pipelines, should be monitored continuosly with leak detection systems: the pipeline surveys may prevent leaks, monitoring pipe thickness but operators do not use intelligent pig every years. A Leak detection system, allowing quick shut down of line valves, will alwais reduce yhe oil spill.
