Thanks. Your citations to the Annenburg foundation and Factcheck.Org made my point. If they are rushing to Snopes' defense, forget veracity.
When the FACTS are too damn uncomfortable, divert attention by attacking the source!

BTW: They actually took their time supporting Snopes. But that doesn't matter to the mud-slinging propagandists who can't debunk FACTS.

From the NYT: DEBUNKERS OF FICTIONS SIFT THE NET Less than a year later, Snopes became the family’s full-time job. Advertisements sold by a third-party network cover the $3,000-a-month bandwidth bills, with enough left over for the Mikkelsons to make a living —“despite rumors that we’re paid by, depending on your choice, the Democratic National Committee or the Republican National Committee,” Mr. Mikkelson said. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/05/technology/ ...

“Aren’t they [Snopes] originally funded with Soros money?” Nope -- it started in 1996 as a list of urban myths and legends by amateur folklorists David and Barbara Mikkelson and evolved into fact-checking….Further, the idea that the Mikkelsons are driven by liberal ideology has been debunked by FactCheck.org , which noted that Barbara Mikkelson is a Canadian citizen, while David Mikkelson is a political independent who was previously a registered Republican and has no public record of having made political donations. http://mediamatters.org/blog/201006010050

From: www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/s/snopes.htm SNOPES.COM IS A SECRET TOOL OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY TO PROMOTE BARACK OBAMA - FICTION! Summary of the eRumor: An eRumor about Snopes.com accusing them being owned by a flaming liberal and this man is in the tank for Obama. THE TRUTH: In October, 2008, stories began circulating via forwarded emails that the popular urban legends site Snopes.com was owned by liberals and was "in the tank" for presidential candidate Barack Obama.

As with many forwarded emails, the criticism did not include any example of what the writer of the email claimed was the difference between what Snopes.com reported and what Barack Obama had actually said.

Snopes.com is an excellent site that has become an authoritative source for information about urban legends and forwarded emails. We regard David and Barbara Mikkelson, the founders and operators of Snopes.com , as colleagues and professional researchers who have earned a good reputation for what they do. We can give a unique perspective on this story because we do the same kind of work as Snopes.com and have sometimes been the target of similar criticism….. One of the versions of the eRumor mentions TruthOrFiction.com and recommends our site. We appreciate that, but we want to say for the record that we've had nothing to do with this eRumor about Snopes.com and we condemn it….."

From About.com : Snopes Under Fire -IS THE FACT-CHECKING SITE SNOPES.COM BIASED AND UNRELIABLE? Status: FALSE http://urbanlegends.about.com/od/internet/a/s ... I trust the good people of New Mexico will understand
what happen to Judge Robles. He made a mistake. He should be forgiven. He is a good judge and a human. Yes, even the good one's fall from grace. We loose if we punish here.

Excellent response. It is ironic that those who attack fact finding sites will believe the propaganda and outright lies that Faux repeats day after day, show after show.

Did you forget about politifact.com ? It is another excellent site.

Are you suggesting that he not have to face the consequences of his actions? Just because of 'who' he is? Justice is supposed to be blind, imposing the same rules and regulations on all equally and the same consequences.

The 'good people' of New Mexico will offer forgiveness, of that there is no doubt.

But the 'good people' want the system to be fair to everyone. Judge Robles needs to do his required 72 hours, enroll in the DWI program and have an interlock installed in any vehicle he drives.

Forgiveness comes after the transgressor has demonstrated behavior modification.
