I would love to review my experiences with this delightful cottage, but unfortunately I was not given this opportunity. Instead, I can only detail my experience with Suzanna Walters who owns the cottage. I found the cottage on this site and promptly filled out the form. She seemed delighted and emailed details. She offered to send a contract for us to sign and payment details. My husband answered and revealed we were a heterosexual couple. She emailed, saying that her daughter wanted to use the cottage that week. Okay these things happen, so we picked another week and emailed her. She replied with the following email: Im so sorry Im pretty booked up for the rest of the season (I use it myself most of the time and rent just a bit). Good luck Im sure there are lots of places available that time of year. As I write this, the calendar dates are still listed as open with scattered rentals throughout and she is listed on at least two rental sites. Dr. Walters certainly seems to be trying to rent her cottage. It is obvious that it is we who are not welcome nor wanted. We have been coming to Provincetown for 23 years and have never been denied accommodations before. Evidently, Dr. Walters made some assumptions about us. Indulged in some stereotypical thinking perhaps. This is surprising considering she is the Director of Womens, Gender and Sexuality Studies at a local university and has written extensively on LGBT issues and popular culture. Perhaps she thinks Provincetown should only be for the LGBT community and others need not apply. Discrimination is wrong whether it is overt like the Westboro Baptist Church, or covert, slick and sly as the Doctor and her ilk would have it. It is wrong. I should say that we love coming to Provincetown for the openness and diversity it offers. We have been ardent advocates and supporters of the LGBT community since 1980. At the time, our families thought we were crazy to support such people. In the hell of the 80s we figured LGBT folks could use all the help they could get and did it not because it was chic nor politically correct (as it is now) but because it was the right thing to do. A question of humanity which needed a response. You disappoint me, you sadden me Dr. Walters because I really expected more from you. Tolerance goes both ways, Doctor.

I just had something similar happen. I was emailing back and forth with a guest house in P-Town and the property was available up until I mentioned my husband, and then all of a sudden -- you guessed it -- no vacancy. I actually used a different email address to acquire about renting for "myself and my partner" and, sure enough, there was plenty of room at the inn.

I'll gladly give my money to innkeepers and property owners who are tolerant of hetero couples.

There are alot of Lesbians in Ptown that are anti straight anti transgender. Most of them are so butch they look like men themselves.Alot of them were married to men and have children. They think they are the ultimate species of women because they said no to lipstick shaving their legs etc. They live amongst other women rarely mixing with .others.And they discriminate openly.Mostly older. They pool their money together to buy businesses and so on.Real men haters.Cult behavior.

There is nothing quite like the rare breed of Provincetown lesbian. Unfortunately, the majority of them play into every stereotype you've ever heard about gay women - surly, angry, militant, angry, void of humor, man hating (they *hate* gay men)... Did I mention they're angry? Thank God they congregate more in the east end, so their misery can be contained to one side of town. But if you *do* run into one, you'll always be left wondering if they have teeth at all, for they NEVER SMILE...
