these things will continue to happen, and happen all the more regularly, without proper law enforcment on the roads in this area.

Well Bub, since we don't know what happened as of yet, I dout very seriously that extra law enforcement would have helped. Don't blame accidents on the amount of law enforcementon the roads, you blame wrecks on the neglect of people driving these vehicles and trucks and motorcycles!!!! Put the blame where it belongs, careless driving!

Stop... you are exactly right, since we don't have the facts of the accident yet, there is no way to tell. But more law enforcement is not the answer. It may just be what it is, an unavoidable accident, been there myself!

It's time to start replacing the cable wire with CONCRETE barriers.
I'd pay $1.00 more per fill up to pay for it.

I agree. Why is everyone so quick to judge when we don't even know the story yet? Just like last week when everyone was so quick to judge the young man who was driving his family. Now his Mom has to bury him and his father and everyone's little comments didn't help, I'm sure. She was in the car with them, not us. Let's just pray for these two people today and hope that their families can feel our prayers.

What good are the cable barriers if they won't prevent a car from crossing over?Whose relative sold the DOT on these worthless pieces of crap? It's an illusion,if they won't stop a car, they definetely won't stop a semi.

You know, some accidents are merely that, ACCIDENTS, so lets get all the facts first. As far as police go you could have a million on the roads and you're still gonna have accidents.

I just want to say I am very sorry for your loss. I am very aware of your pain. Please remember no matter what when times seem to come to a miserable darkness you are never alone. Cling to that and know I am praying for you and yours.

With love from a heart still healing,

Julie

Julie - sounds like you have experienced some pain like this as well - so have I. Hang in there. Thanks for your words of encouragement during these families lives. Take care.

Those cables are worthless. All they did by putting them there was allow people to drive faster because the cops can't cross the medians to stop them. The fatality rate has increased since they were installed. They need to pull the cables up and let the cops slow these people down.

What's going on in this section of interstate ? It sure seems like there are too many accidents at this location. I am at a loss as to why so many . Can anyone else shed some light why ? The road seems straight enough , with no visible reasons . My sympathy goes to the families of the victims.

My teen was going to see my father in Chapin & I asked her to do something which delayed her 5 minutes. She would have been in the area when it happened. Thank you God!! My sympathy to the families of those involved.

I have wondered the same thing! Is this part of the highway haunted or built on an old burial ground or something? I hate having to drive through there, because it seems like so many weird accidents happen right around there.

You know, I passed this accident after it happened. They say it was about mm94, well it was just after Peak, where people get on to go westbound. Traffic was backed up til Chapin. I go through this area every day. People try to race to beat the cars coming on the interstate. It is so scarry because people don't know how to move over or slow down for people to enter the interstate. Seeing as we don't know exactly what happened, just be a courteous when driving by ANY on/off ramps. I pray for these families for the lives lost and the ones who have to go on---not knowing exactly what happened. Is life worth driving fast???

A week after the deaths on I-26 on Mother's day we have yet another wreck where the cables did not do their job and deaths occured.
Cement barriers are needed.
Lower speeds are needed.
More lanes and better interchanges are needed to handle the traffic.
More officers are needed to patrol these roads and get control of wreckless driving and high speeds I witness on this same stretch of raod everyday.
Who out there is going to take charge and do something about it. Gov, nope cost money, can't spend money. Legistlature, no it does not help fatten their friends pockets, or make a political statement by cutting spending. DOT, oh well, got to have the money to do the job right, and DPS needs the money to put troupers on the road. Folks we have a money surplus in this state, lets use it to help fix and patrol these dangerous roads and for gosh sakes spended some wisely (if possible) on education. Its a crime for this to continue.

Shortly after i woke up this morning (i sleep late, call me a nighthawk), we got a call from my sister. Her voice was shaky and she asked to speak to my father. She was driving the white car that was in this accident.
Apparently the driver of the other car had a stroke and thats why the car went across the median. She said it went under the wires. She said she didn't think it was going to run into her, maybe they were going to make a u-turn or something. I won't give out her name, and I don't know the names of the 2 people who died.

She is all bruised up and her back is really messed up, she also has a pretty bad burn from the seatbelt.

Anyways, my mother and I are going down to see them tomorrow.

As for those of you who think some moron decided it might be fun to drive on the wrong side of the road... like i said, i heard that the driver of the other car had a stroke.
Don't take my word for it tho, as the autopsies are scheduled for tomorrow, so we will all know more then.

My condolences to the family and friends of those who died.

It does seem like a lot of wrecks happen because of traffic trying to merge onto the interstate. Our on/off ramps seem way too short and then you have the type of on/off ramps that have traffic cris/crossing in front of each other...just doesn't make sense to me.
