The public needs to come out on this.

Peacock, there are some people here who have worked and worked to get the shelter. Like you I think those of us in the public who care need to converge on the commissioner's meetings and the city council meetings. I just can't believe they all keeping lying and lying and expect people to just forget about what we were promised in the past. However, we get a high dollar city hall. Don't know why anyone with any intelligence would want to live in this place.

City buildings are more important to the CITY than a county dog pound. As a citizen of this town, I am glad to see them investing in our seniors for their senior center, a new city hall that will improve city services and provide a larger council room so more citizens can attend, and we all know the police department could use the extra room.

I totally agree, but I think a humane animal shelter is also needed in the County. The majority of the funding is already in place, raised by animal lovers....with special kudo's to the Allen's for their generosity.

Agreed, but it's a county project, and I don't know why some on here can't understand that. It's not a city of Bonham issue.

As of August 10th, 2010 this issue is dead. Supposedly Commissioner Strickland is in some secret talks with Bonham about reviving the issue. Having first been involved with Pat Ward and Thou Allen through my wife, I have again offered to Mrs. Ward that I will build the facility for under $200,000 that was the original estimated cost. This would consist of using either City or County owned land and working with organizations that would supply mostly labor free of charge or dedicated individuals that want to see the right thing done. Only a few trades would be paid as we would be using them for their liability insurance if something associated with their professions happened down the road. The trades would be electrical, plumbing, and insulation (Foam insulation for the entire structure). All material cost for the building would be paid for in full unless the entity supplying them wants another arrangement. If built in the city I would expect the city inspector to be involved on a daily basis and waive the inspection charges.

All materials and paid labor would be from Fannin county with no exceptions. Hopefully an arrangement could be reached whereby any donated labor or materials could be accepted as a tax donation for either the individual or business.

NO ONE BESIDES THE LISTED TRADES in regards to labor would be paid myself included in the construction of the shelter. I can confidently list a price as I have built a similar building as that needed in the past.

What happened at the county meeting on Monday? The shelter was on the Agenda. Did they decide anything?

From what I hear, McQueen, you have made yourself so popular to the County Commissioners, I doubt if they would let you paint the half-moon on an outhouse.
