My purpose for this forum is to allow Forestport Residents, and politicians (current and perspective political candidates running in this year’s election) to discuss what we want to happen in Forestport in the future.

Specifically:
(1) For all of us to share our ideas what think needs to happen in Forestport
(2) For Town Government Board Members and people seeking Future Town Government Board Member Positions to discuss what they would like to accomplish, and why.

I would ask everyone to keep their discussion on things they want and not to attack others because of their dislike of that particular person.

A number of people have made comments on here about Topix being a non constructive, negative and low life site. Here is your opportunity to create a constructive forum for expressing ideas and discussion...and to keep the discussion constructive....So we don't need anyone making comments ...like this idea is stupid!!...what we need is comments on what are the issues you see on why this idea will or won't work.

Everyone talks about the need for communication by politicians with the people of the Town....so here is an opportunity!! I'm also asking and encouraging all current politicians and candidates running for office in November to please join into the discussion. My hope is that this forum becomes useful to everyone.

I appreciate if someone would start the discussion...and everyone have a great day !! All of us live in Forestport for a reason....and whatever that reason is....I think we all have a stake in Forestports future.

Thanks,
I Love Forestport

It would seem that the Planning of the Community has been forgotten. First you must get the people to be positive and take a good long look at the beauty here. Some time back, there were meetings sponsored by a grant for this same adventure. Explore sources for funds. It may be hard to secure outside SEED MONEY through governmental processes today, but it can be done.

1st. First there must be an acceptable Plan and THEME here, and people who can contribute their time.

2nd Without zoning it may be difficult to protect our Sacred Places, but they should be secured if at all possible.

3rd Decide where you want this growth to take place in our town.

5th How will this preservation be financed?

4th The Village seems to hold the most history. so that should be preserved. Other places along the Rte 28 corridor should also be explored for historic value such as places like the Music Camp, and highlight what we have here with signage.

5th We will soon lose the railroad (which is a heartbreak) so perhaps we should see how we could develop the river for safe boat rides or rafting challenges. Don't forget the old time horse drawn surrey's etc.

6th Parker Snead had a round up, horse show, etc. that was a success. Perhaps Horse trails and an old livery stable or blacksmith shop from which to begin carriage rides through our sacred places would be proper.

7th PRESERVE AND PROTECT OUR SACRED PLACES. Explore and learn our HISTORY of the WOODSMEN.

8th Develop something here, like the WOODSMEN FIELD DAYS that Boonville has.

9th DEVELOP OUR LOGGING INDUSTRY....

10 A UNIFIED WORK GROUP TO PROTECT OUR HERITAGE AND OUR HISTORY.

Plant the ideas, nurture them and create a foundation for Forestport' Heritage to last for another generation.

Just thoughts now, but hopefully some of this will be the basis for preserving the rich history and heritage of Forestport.

What is needed is 1., a nice playground / park ..
2. a usable boat launch on forestport pond .. 3. new town hall .. 4. term limits on elected offices .. 5. a cost effective solution to the septic problems on the 3 lakes ....

Good ideas, keep them coming.
Agree wholehartedly re: septic systems around the outer lake areas and also the playground/Park
Term limits, yes, yes, YES!!
A good water/septic system. Think of enlargement or development in the upper districts wherever needed.
Also, how about developing a BUSINESS DISTRICT perhaps in Woodgate, or close to the center of the entire township.
BUT MOST OF ALL TRY TO KEEP OUR COMMUNITY UNCROWDED in certain areas, as much as possible.

Hi Bob.....not against a New Town Hall...but I just don't know the reasons why we need a new Town Hall.....other than the building being to old. Could you tell me the reasons you see for needing one?
Thanks,

Nice Job "I love Forestport" Thanks for taking the time to share...great future plan....I think all of us could support this plan, but most of us are afraid of to much government regulation!!
I think because of this zoning has always been a negative in this town...because we moved here to have a more freedom and less interference by neighbors and government....but yet all of us want to protect the beauty....without being controlled by the Planning Board and Town Board.
Thanks again for sharing....allot of thought in what was written.
Could you give me your comments on how my issues could be deal with!!!

Agreed, there should be no one or two particular entities in control of charting Forestport's future. THE PEOPLE THEMSELVES ...AS MANY AS WE HAVE HERE STILL, WHO LIVED PART OF THAT HISTORY, MUST BE INVOLVED. They are the LIVING HISTORY of this community. Talk with them, ask them for their input, they certainly have tons of facts, and ideas they can remember, they are the THE LIVING PART OF THE HISTORY OF OUR COMMUNITY. God Bless everyone of them.
Forestport should be proud of it's history. It's name is indication of what it is....THE PORT TO THE FOREST. A lady named Dorothy Mooney had much history, but no one knows what became of that since her death.
Cherish this town and the oldsters still here, protect it, and keep it proud of what it represents..........It is FORSTPORT'S PRECIOUS HERITAGE!

How about a playground, basketball court and tennis court so the kids have something to do in this town. Well actually we have one... it just was not maintained and needs fixing, maybe before kids are left there all day at the summer recreation program with nothing to do.the basketball backboard is about to fall on someone too.where is the tennis net and fence that was surrounding the court?Instead of building an announcer's booth for the scooters team at the ball field, how about doing something for the kids for a change.

Yes, I noticed someone or some group has finances to build an announcement booth. Did that building get approval from the proper channels. I hope so.
Unfortunate they were not adamant and didn't speak out about the basketball court and net for the children here, and had not championed that cause for the community. Perhaps that is because they are not a Town Sponsored group. Maybe rental fees should apply?
Re:Town Hall. I believe it should be maintained and continued to be used as a Town Hall and meeting place. It also should be kept in mind that the Sr. Meal program is there too.
Why keep it? Because it is old and an integral part of the history of the town. Remember, it was a school!!

there was bids submitted for the construction of the announcers booth and I believe it benefits the athletic association not just the fast pitch league

well for one , the place costs more to heat than a pole barn , I went to school there and it was always cold , unless you were next to the radiator , another is if someone is old or in a wheel chair how do you get to anyplace other than the old gym , not enough parking , the library was moved to the upper floor , that's why its gone ....

I am sure the topic was what we want to see happen in our community. Anyone can return to that subject with a post. Sometimes one just needs to get things off their chest. But, as you mentioned, that was not the purpose of this site.
So posters should get back on track as stated in the first post..........to discuss what Forestport residents want to happen in the FUTURE
And, isn't the future the place to get these GOOD THINGS done that we want to have happen in our community?

The original school was up next to Kiefer hall , and most of the houses in the village are much older than the town hall ( school ) I think the town hall is a money pit , unable to expand , not the best setup for a town hall , I am a native and I like to keep things as they are , but its not the best use of our money .... as far as the using the pond for boat rides and rafting , there are about 200 stumps all over the pond ... any talks about the future of forestport has to include the younger people , would be nice to see a committee , I have some ideas and I'm sure there are others that would be glad to help ....

I would hope Parker, when he is elected, will see to it when he has studied the needs in the community.
I am sure he will draw together a group who can and will work well and unselfishly for a better Forestport.
We need Parker.

Please go to the NOCCOG site (Northern Oneida County Council of Government) Our town has Geri Ritter representing us on that board.
It is most interesting, especially once one sees just what is available and what WE have received from our membership as part of what this organization has to offer, and how it may affect us in any future planning for our township.

Lots of information OUT there, but you must look for it.

Reviewing the Town Board Minutes, it shows considerable changes in the Assessor's and the Planning Board's employees.
You may want to review the motion just to keep up on both these actions. Approve or not, you should be aware.
