What about those 150,000 from the stimulus? Was the total job losses adjusted for them?

Despite the highest unemployment rate (9.4%) in 25 years we are instructed by the media to not worry, be happy - the Obama bankrupt America plan is working.

While it is good to have a feeling of optimism I have to wonder if a bit of optimism during the Bush years might have helped forestall the current crisis. Remember if you will that even as unemployment numbers were approaching historic LOWS (4.8%) during his second term, the media repeated the Democrat's claim that we were in the "worst economy since Herbert Hoover".

Remember also the ubiquitous media disclaimer that "...unemployment figures do not include the large number of people who have simply given up looking for work." No mention of those people in any of the media reporting nowadays.

On Monday, I read in both the Trib and WSJ that the number was 530,000. Did the federal government hire the difference?

Forget the unemployment numbers, I would like to know how many people are on welfare today, how many of these people voted for Democrats, and what do they think is going to change.

By the way, where is the guy in charge these days and why isn't this one of his priorities?

For you lefties still toeing the party line, exactly what has The Chosen One done to stem the flow of private sector job loss?

I know he has strengthened unions, made it easier to sue your employer, and killed the credit market, but has he done anything positive?

I know it will be difficult, but try to respond without using the word "Bush". That's yesterday's news.

Only an additional 345,000 people lost their jobs in May (will likely be revised upward to approx. 375,000 next month)....9.4% out of work(up from 8.9%).
Happy days are here again.

They'll be more job cuts next month. OfficeMax just ran out of Pink Slips. They're currently on backorder but should arrive in the next week or so.

According to the Communist Network 350,000 is only a small number.

That is insulting to anyone of those 350,000 people.

It's unbelieveable to see how the media has fallen all over themselves for this Clown in Office.

The government has already spent BILLIONS. Mr Obama has made promises of millions new jobs...And unemployment staying below 9%.

Some five months later, the media is BRAGGING about fewer LOSSES !!!!!

The sector that did add jobs was government.

Of course, because taxpayers pay for these jobs.

And these jobs in the private sector would have cost much less and been a lot more productive.

Mr. President, you and Turbo-Tax Tim Geithner and your entire team needs to embark on a discourse of FACT not continuous fantasy and lies.

I wonder what the take on the unemployment numbers would be if President Bush was still in office. Bet it would not be considered a positive sign.

What about the number of people who were told this month that there job would be eliminated within the next 2 months. This does not even count in the actual number.

How many more American Dreams are being shattered.

On top that we have a President who mocks and embrasses us while visting other countries.

Look at the bright side...

At least Obama's $787 billion stimulus plan was targeted primarily to helping small businesses for growth and employment....OH WAIT!

At least Obama's $787 billion stimulus plan wasn't merely a 10-year wishlist of pork and paybacks to special interests and labor unions while increasing the size and intrusion of more federal government bureaucy....OH WAIT!

At least Obama's $3.5 trillion federal budget doesn't massively expand federal government....OH WAIT!

At least Obama's didn't lie when he said he'd go "line-by-line" and eliminate all pork spending, because certainly his $787 billion stimulus bill and his $3.5 trillion federal budget contained no pork spending at all....OH WAIT!

At least Obama isn't tripling if not quadrupling the federal deficit on idiotic, wasteful, patronage spending -- namely the stimulus and budget bills -- which will result in spiraling inflation and burdening our children's children with unimaginable debt....OH WAIT!

At least Obama didn't endanger us or make us economically vulnerable by allowing our debt to be sold and held by a communist foreign power such as China, with whom we now have little leverage (ie: for N. Korea)....OH WAIT!

At least Obama is being honest when he looks America in the eye and praises his stimulus and budget bills for their benefit to the ecomomy and American prosperity....OH WAIT!

At least Obama didn't pledge over $900 million taxpayer dollars to the UN Relief and Work Agency (UNWRA) to aid Palestinian refugees in Gaza, since Hamas has a close relationship with UNWRA, and openly employs a large number of Hamas members, including some of the group's most senior terrorists....OH WAIT!

At least Obama isn't fostering an extortive federal government stronghold of control over the states by threatening to withhold monies from the states when they attempt to manage their budgets by reigning in over-the-top spending for union labor and benefits....OH WAIT!

At least Obama didn't allocate billions to Americorps, to inevitably mandate government civil service, aka liberalist indoctrination, as another means of government control....OH WAIT!

At least Obama didn't insist that the federal government take over private sector businesses -- such as insurance, banking, and auto companies -- using tens of billions of taxpayer dollars....OH WAIT!

At least Obama's control over banking ensured that billions wouldn't be given to foreign banks, while also requring assurances that credit would be restored as a stimulus....OH WAIT!

At least Obama's administration didn't lie about being aware of AIG executive bonuses, nor make a federal case out of it, and at least they made a similar stink about the massive executive bonuses for the heads of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac....OH WAIT!

[continued...]

At least Obama didn't hand over majority interests in the auto companies to his benefactors and the biggest reason for their financial woes -- the labor unions -- and not at taxpayer expense...Oh wait.

At least Obama isn't politically leveraging fear of global warming to attempt to instate federal government control over energy via a ludicrous, economy-killing, cap-and-trade energy tax.....OH WAIT!

At least Obama doesn't want to have federal government control over the healthcare of all Americans, to the tune of trillions of taxpayer dollars, while implementing additional new taxes.....OH WAIT!

At least Obama isn't considering having the federal government take over college loans, while permitting partial debt redemption in exchange for government civil service, aka liberalist indoctrination, as another means of government control....OH WAIT!

At least Obama didn't cut military spending, especially in the wake of the actions of North Korea, Iran, Russia, China, Venezuela, the Taliban, or Al Queda....OH WAIT!

At least Obama has secured our borders and has finally done something to resolve the issue of illegal immigration and illegal aliens, rather than seek amnesty to secure millions of beholden new voters for the democrats....OH WAIT!

At least Obama didn't appoint tax cheats or lobbyists to his cabinet....OH WAIT!

At least Obama didn't appoint 16 federal "czars" to further centralize federal government control, and at least these "czars" have valid private sector experience and management credentials with regard to their respective domains....OH WAIT!

At least Obama's administration is as transparent as can be -- no behind-closed-door deals, bills are made public, accountability is assured, and bipartisan cooperation is encouraged....OH WAIT!

At least Obama isn't blaming the prior administration for everything, and at least he's not demonizing that same administration for political gain from his Bush-hating democratic base (including class-divide and class-warfare tactics)....OH WAIT!

At least Obama doesn't travel the world on European, Central/South American, and Middle Eastern apology tours or listen meekly to communist leaders' rants against the US, and proudly stands up for the USA....OH WAIT!

At least Obama has vast leadership experience in something beyond being a community organizer and of course wasn't mentored and aided by corrupt politicians, criminals, terrorists, and racists....OH WAIT!

At least Obama doesn't behave like an elitist, arrogant, narcissistic dictator while spending millions of taxpayer dollars on his entertainment while telling Americans to hunker down....OH WAIT!

At least Obama isn't a tax-and-spend, radically liberal, anti-business, partisanly-political democrat who politicizes every issue, putting politics ahead of country as a matter of routine and without exception....OH WAIT!

At least Obama doesn't want to destroy the wealth, redistribute the wealth, or "equalize" the status of the American people....OH WAIT!

At least Obama is dedicated to the prosperity, freedoms, and liberties of the US and its citizens, rather than some delusional, hybrid fascist-slash-socialist agenda for massive, overbearing, freedom-robbing government intrusion, control, and taxation....OH WAIT!

ay; no need to worry, we have the right man in office to do the job. before this is all over, the economic stimulus package will have saved BILLIONS of jobs that won't be able to be reflected in the jobs lost every month and will have generated quadrillions more in revenue!

It was NOT LONG ago the employment was at 4.9% AND ALL OF THE MEDIA was screaming HOW BAD Bush was. Now with Barry everything bad is Georges' fault. But now Unemployment is streaming along at RECORD levels and it's NOT as bad as it is.

MORE STUPID-KOOL AIDE please.

More hopium and dopium please and the bad is not as bad because Barry the liar is in office.

Hope? These numbers are feel-good smiley-face Obamapropaganda. Take a look at the real unemployment numbers such as U6 and you'll see that national unemployment measured more honestly is well beyond 15%. In many parts of the country, from MI to OH to CA, actual Great Depression conditions have already hit. Obama is merely continuing Bush's incompetent/elitist/corrupt policies of shoveling billions and billions to Wall Street banksters and UAW goons while the middle and lower classes suffer, suffer, suffer.

did you notice that our liberal co-workers, friends and neighbors are uncharateristically quiet about the state of the economy and world affairs, is it possible that they are experiencing a buyers' remorse? i mean commo'n not one single good news so they can brag about the great obozo. they tell us to give obozo a chance because he had only been in the white house 4 months...but look what he did in four months he tripled the deficit, killed the auto industry, the banking industry, pissed off our allies, tanked the economy, destroyed the stock market, praised our muslim enemies and you want us to give him some time? how about if we give obozo the same chance you gave bush to be fair. by the way how's hope and change working out for you democraps?

why does the paper trot out crap like this-they spent the last presidency talking down the economy while they are throwing roses at the pile of c rap that obama is giving us. does everyone realize that unemployment is now above what the Administration predicted it would be if the stimulus were not passed? that's right-we have the destructive spending of the stimulus and higher unemployment as well.
