"I think some people are too scared... that things could be different. I guess it's hard for some people who are so used to things the way they are, even if they're bad, to change... cause, I guess, they kind of give up. When they do, everybody kind of loses..." from the movie Pay It Forward
We need someone who's NOT from Abbeville to come in and clean this town up!!! I just read the news where Mr Watson won the Democratic primary for Abbeville County sheriff. I am sooooooooo EXCITED about this! I really hope he wins on May 14!
I don't know this man. Have never met him but from what I've read about him on the net I believe he's the man who can & will do the job the RIGHT WAY. I believe he will do something about the drug dealers in this town.
There's a drug dealer that lives near by. Everyone around here knows he's a dealer! as far as I know this dealer has never had a REAL job. I have called the police SEVERAL times about this POS. other neighbors have also called but nothing is ever done about it! There's been fights at his place. There's been several explosions at his place. He's always shooting his gun in the AM hours (1:00 - 4:00AM)
Anyone know when was the last drug bust in Abbeville? Abbeville NEEDS Mr. Watson!! Our KIDS NEED Mr Watson! The "Good Ol Boy" system just isn't working!
Name: Marvin Ray Watson II.

Name: Marvin Ray Watson II.
Years living in area: I have lived in this area for my entire life. I moved from Greenwood to Abbeville County in 1995.
Education: I was educated in the Greenwood County Public School System and then attended Anderson Junior College for two years.
Current occupation: I am currently employed by the Greenwood County Sheriff's Office as a deputy sheriff, where I hold the rank of Captain in charge of the Criminal Investigations Division. I have worked for the sheriff's office for about 20 years.
1. Why should people vote for you? I have the experience needed to be the next sheriff of Abbeville County because during my career in law enforcement I have been exposed to many different situations that have given me the experience needed to be a leader during these tough times. Crime has changed. Criminals are smarter and more dangerous than ever, and I will be proactive, not reactive. My department will be proactive. We will know the community and people we serve. I think every day that we have to earn the trust and respect of the community. By being proactive, we will do our best to prevent crimes, but if and when a crime is committed, we will work diligently to identify and apprehend the suspect. We will be community- and people-oriented and treat people with dignity and respect while maintaining professionalism. I have extensive training in the fields of uniform patrol, narcotics and criminal investigations and have been involved in the everyday activities of running a sheriff's office. I feel I can be an asset to Abbeville County by bringing the experience and training that I have received during the last 20 years from a larger department.
2. What are the three most important issues you would address if elected and how would you address them?
A.) If elected, I would attack the drug problem in Abbeville County. To do this, I would build a strong working relationship with the Abbeville Police Department and all surrounding counties because drugs have no boundary lines. I would assign my best and most experienced officers to the narcotics unit, and last but not least, allow them to do their jobs. I would give them support and the equipment needed to be successful.
B.) Another thing that would be a priority if elected would be educating the youth in Abbeville County about the dangers of drugs and how to avoid crime. I would teach them about making the right decisions and how making the wrong decisions now will affect them later in life. I will be committed to and will play an integral part in this by speaking to any group, school or individuals that have concerns or problems with drugs or alcohol.
C.) Other issues I will address would be training and providing the officers the equipment they need to perform their duties proficiently and to make sure they all go home safely to their families at the end of their shifts.
3. What other issues do you see as important? Keeping the citizens informed of crimes in all areas of the county. Letting them be aware of trends in crime and things to be on the lookout for. Helping the areas set up neighborhood watch programs. Also keeping the victims informed of progress in their cases, from when they will have court appearances to getting their opinions on what they would like to see happen in their cases. I will also build a good working relationship with the solicitor's office.
Are there any personal details about yourself voters would be interested in knowing? I enjoy hunting and fishing. I am an animal lover - I have two dogs and a kitten. I enjoy watching high school sports in the area.
