What most people don't know is that Mystic Lake won't even take care of their own people and they are giving money away to others who aren't even part of this tribe. It is nice of them to give to charitable organizations, but when they leave their own people out of the profits, that is not right.

Estimates are that they had 1 billion in profits. Donating the money is good business for public goodwill because MN could create a lot of competition for them in order to generate some tax revenue.

Big deal, Mystic. Every other business in this state donates to charity on a regular basis. It's called paying taxes, only it's mandatory and keeps skyrocketing.

C'mon, whitey can't be jealous because the american indian is finally making some money in the white man's world now can he? Give them a break, they worked the tax free deal and frankly they deserve it. As a former teacher who has taught on reservations, it's going to take a whole lot more money to get their communities up to par. The US Gov't sure as hell isn't going to give it to them.

$40million pales in comparison to what they take in, not to mention all the social welfare program costs directly associated with gambling compulsion. Start taxing them, or atleast allow for some state regulated competition.

this does not scratch the surface of what MN is missing in tax revenues if others were allowed to have slots. Cantabury Park and Running Aces would be able to handle as many as the state would allow them.
10 Million was donated to the U did nothing for our economic times! Time to get moving on this!

Soveriegn Nation- Look it up! There is absolutely no requirement or expectation for them to have to donate into any part of Minnesota's society, they do it because it is the right thing to do, and they deserve our thanks!

Even though I feel that the tribal casinos should be paying taxes,$40M is nothing to scoff at. I thank them for their donations.

And,$1,000,000,000 in profits? Where in the world does that number come from? That would mean almost $3M each day in profit. Seems highly unlikely to me.

A Billion? c'mon.
MGM casinos (all 20 of them) only have about 400-500 million in annual profits.

The people who say they are Mdewakaton Sioux and are collecting the large sum of money every month are not even true Mdewakaton Indians. The lied and cheated their way into a community that belongs to the true Mdewakaton Sioux. If they had to prove their heritage, 3/4 of them would not even qualify for the benefits that belong to the people who are rejected by the community who actually DO belong there. The Government has been siding with them for over 100 years now and it is time the truth about these so-called true Mdewakatons who so generously give away money money that is not even theirs to give away.

did the Tribe turn your application down sara, the Tribe has requirements that are put in place for a reason, and the monies are theirs to do with as they please, why not ask them for some and start a program to promote/support a charitable organization then you will get your greedy little fingers on some, and stay out if you can't afford to play with in your means

You can make a billion/yr when you house your casino in a big box (like Wal-mart) and don't have any competition. MGM spends billions building each casino and they have to make that back (or pay the mortgage) before turning profits. Each member of the Tribe takes home in excess of $3million/year and there are a 200-300 members. Throw-in costs unrelated to operating the casino (roads, schools, giving money away) and you have about $1 billion/year in profits. The tribe does its best to keep such information secret.
