I think it is really unfair to girls for purses to be banned from the Middle School. Boys give up nothing! All purses to be stored in the lockers along with book bags, no mention of backpacks in the memo to parents from Mr. Buckner. They claim safety is the primary cause and they also state cell phone and contraband as a reason as well. I say again why did they not ban:

Backpacks
Hoddies
cargo pants and shorts

Contraband or cell phones can be hidden in these items very easily.

So when a girl needs a maxi pad she now has to go ask for permission to go to her locker then the restroom. Or she could just go to the office. What if she has a male teacher?

Guess you guys need to start rockin the fanny packs. Wear them right in the front so alteast you can get a good laugh out of it. You can tell a man made this rule up. I am sure that if you go to your locker to grab something that someone will come up to you a.k.a. a teacher/security and then slow you down even more trying to go to the bathroom. Get a petition going for your daughters sake.

If you only knew... This will be at the High School as well I'm pretty sure... but as for the Middle School it does include all backpacks and bookbags. The teachers had an option to let the girls leave them in a basket at the front of the room and they voted to make them leave them in the locker. They will also have to, as you said, ask to go to the locker and to the restroom, which will be written in the back of the student handbook that was given to them.(If you notice in the back, this is where our kids have their hall passes.) So now, they will have a year long record of each of my daughter's monthly cycles for all of her friends...(guys and girls) to get ahold of this book and see on a regular basis. This is not fair to our girls. The letters state "Contraband"... how many girls do you know that carry weapons to school?... Now I realize that cell phones are considered "contraband", however, the guys will continue to carry them in those baggy jeans that they wear... What is next... removing the kids clothing at the door? That is the only way to prevent them from bringing "anything" into the school and to be honest, I'm not quite sure it's safe anymore without a cell phone at school... Just make them turn it off. Remember all of the times your children has had to call you from the stadium at the High School because of some reason they had to evacuate?... They couldn't get back into the school to call. Teachers were allowing them to use THEIR (The Teacher's) cell phones and was asking those who HAD THEM to GET THEM OUT and CALL HOME. Same thing at the Middle School. I remember when they were evacuated to another location with only "one phone" to call for 600 children... There was no way... so they told the students if they had their cell phones with them to get them out and CALL and to ALLOW THEIR FRIENDS to use them if they would. These are not always a bad thing... If an emergency would arise at a school, they DO NOT have phones in individual classrooms for anyone to call for HELP... They better hope someone has a cell phone!...Times have changed and we have to adapt with it... Make the children leave the phones off. With the policy they are trying to adopt right now, the only thing they are doing is punishing and embarassing the females in the school. They are not stopping ANYONE from carrying things into the school. The guys will continue to carry the phones all day long... and lord knows what else for some. Give the ladies back their dignity and let them carry a purse... I agree you might want to try to limit the size of the darn thing because some of them now look like carry on luggage, but other than that... it seems like the school system is violating her rights to keep her "private matters"... TRUELY PRIVATE.

Thank god I'm not in school anymore... Sounds like a mini prison.

But I agree... let the girls carry their purses due to personal matters.

Girls should be allowed to carry their purses. Tell me what girl, at that young of an age, wants to announce her period to the world? At that age, most teens are uncomfortable with their bodies & the changes that are going on with them. In this day & age of such bullying & ridicule, why subject them to anymore than they are already going through. The parents need to stand together & stand up to the rights of the children. What's next, making them have chaperones in the bathroom?

If the girls are not allowed to carry thier purses, then the teachers shouldn't be allowed to have them either!!! When the teacher is having her monthly cycle and needs to go to the restroom then she should have to write it on a list for everyone to see just like the students. What is fair for one is fair for all!!!! Who knows, some teachers may be crazy enough to carry guns in their purses too. You can never be too cautious!!!!

The only thing that I can tell girls to use and carry is those tiny tampons w/o an applicator or the ones that expand to full size when you open them. If they use pads and have a heavy period they will have a bad problem.

Schools started to do that several years ago....I was picking my sister up at her high school and I was 20-21 years old and I had the principal walk by me and ask why I was not in class. I should have said I got out early for good behavior lol.

Princeton Middle School is so stupid! I hated that school. Girls should be allowed to carry their purses for personal reasons. If their not going to let them then they should supply all tampons/pads in the girls bathroom!! I mean what girl wants everyone to know their on their period?

I think it is ashame that they can't carry their purses. All the girls need to get together and take turns asking to go to the office and go there and ask for a pad or tampon-after about a week or so the school will rethink it because they won't want to spend the money on all the personal items they are having to provide. I agree it should go for all if it is truly the safety they are worried about-teachers and all other staff. I guess the school has never caught a boy with a phone in his pocket or his hoodie or a knife in his shoe-come on it just isn't the girl's purses and the backpacks/book bags. I know they say they the get locker breaks but where are the girls going to put the personal item if they don't have pockets. If the school wants to be so controlling why don't they put a supply of personal items in each bathroom so the girls won't feel so uncomfortable.

wouldn't this be a form of sexual harrassment to force the girls to do this , this does involve their right to privacy relating to their personal care?

Another knee jerk response to a problem. Are cell phones a problem in class? yes. But banning purses only discriminates against 1/2 the school population. As parents do we sit and watch school administration tell us what is best for our daughters? NO. If you disagree with this policy step up and write the principal, Mr. Danny Bruckner and voice your outrage. Otherwise, they will be banning hoodies and cargo shorts and whatever else we let them get away with.

You "concerned moms" (meaning moms who ALWAYS want to complain about their poor little mistreated princesses) need to get real. You are that upset about purses in classes? You have no idea what some of these pretentious girls are like. So, how about YOU take care of this problem at home...ok?
First... please tell your daughters to NOT get into their purses 5-6 times each class to get something out. "ZIP" get a pencil "ZIP". "ZIP" get out some lip gloss "ZIP" etc. Oh, that's right...they don't listen to what you tell them to do either. They do what they want.
If she fills out a pass for the restroom, she can stop at her locker and get what she needs. How is that announcing her period to the whole class?
Oh, and for the "if the girls can't have purses, then neither should teachers" moron... I suppose you don't want the teachers driving and voting too. I mean we don't let the kids do it... then neither should teachers.
