WASHINGTON -- House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) announced who will chair all of the major House committees in the next Congress. And it turns out they all have something in common besides party affiliation: they're all white men.

There isn't a single woman or minority included in the mix of 19 House committee chairs announced Tuesday -- a stark reality for a party desperate to appeal to women and minorities after both groups overwhelmingly rejected Republicans just weeks ago in the presidential election.

***Remember all the discussions about the Republican Party learning valuable lessons about the need to reach out and broaden their appeal to women and minorities? It doesn't look like they are getting off to a very good start.

One problem: If the GOP embraces minorities or women, they lose their core voting base.

After a few more years of Obama disaster, Republicans won't have any problems getting votes.

It's not like it was a landslide victory people! There still many red states on the map.

What lost the election was the Republicans picked the wrong person to run... Again. I knew Romney was going to lose when he talked about the 47%. Even if it's true that many of those people don't care about tax cuts, he shouldn't have said it.

People who voted for Obama because he's black are the racists.

True. And some members of the GOP are saying that he's already lost the 2016 election for them. He's really making a jerk out of himself.

Not true. I voted for Obama and I'm white.

See, there's your trouble... you don't read very well. I said: "People who voted for Obama BECAUSE he's black are the racists."

By 2016, people will be tired of being unemployed and want a change.

And when they are unemployed, they'll remember the Republican ideals of closing businesses just to make a political statement.

Um, look around... there were enough unemployed before the election.

Political statement? No, if a business isn't making money they have to lay people off or go bankrupt. Many businesses know costs are going up so they have to cut labor expense.

They could cut executives pay and bonuses, or is that off limits?

That doesn't happen. Would you give yourself a pay decrease if you were in charge? I think not. Plus in harsh business conditions, that's when you need strong executives in place.

But usually when lay offs occur, many in management get the axe also.

A business only survives if it makes money... unless it gets gov't hand outs. But then it can still go bankrupt like Solindra did.

Yes. A reduced income stream is better than no income.

What are you talking about?? CEO's don't get laid off.

You're going to find that the wealthy will cut back investment except where they can make money from gov't programs/initiatives.

The worse things get the more likely the rich can buy up businesses/property for bargain prices and get richer.

The only way out of this mess is to get serious about job creation and put people back to work.
