What would happen to Iran if they did strike US bases?

They are making threats. Can a military or social analyst here inform us of the likely outcome of such foolish actions against the Western world?

I know of one political analyst and military strategist that hangs around Topix that could answer this question. I was hoping that he'd show up and offer some informed speculation on what the resultant aftermath of such a war would look like, and the ramifications and implications for the Western world.

There would be immediate retaliation taking out air defensive equipment and aircraft until air supremacy was established. This would allow US strikes on nuclear facilities and other high value targets with impunity. Nothing would get in or out of the country except humanitarian supplies. After several months of isolation and constant attacks,the govt would collapse allowing a US friendly regime to be installed. At least that's how its supposed to work.
