Dish Network call center fires 30 just before Christmas
Colorado-based satellite TV provider still employs nearly 900 in Christiansburg.

The sprawling Dish Network customer service call center in Christiansburg fired 30 employees last week. Company spokeswoman Francie Bauer emphasized that the job cuts came in the normal course of hiring and firing and were not layoffs.

“We have to make decisions sometimes that are in the best interests of the company,” she said.“We’re always looking at streamlining operations.”

She estimated the center still employs nearly 900 people.

“It’s always a difficult decision,” Bauer said.“But it’s business as usual.”

Bauer acknowledged hearing that some of the affected workers have reacted angrily, especially given the holiday season timing of the firings.

“Admittedly, it’s a tough time,” she said.

Dish Network Corp., a publicly traded satellite TV provider, is based in Englewood, Colo.

On Dec. 10, the company announced it had passed 14 million customers.

On Nov. 9, Dish Network released third quarter 2009 results and reported that total revenues had dropped when compared to the same period in 2008.

First of all, yes dish can be pretty crappy. As for myself I was fired for a BS reason that was out of my control. I was a tier 5 agent with amazing stats and I had great rapport with upper management coaches and agents. I was screwed by 1 coach and 1 manager. Now, all you people saying shi* about Ally and Ashley just need to shut up. What they do is none of your business and their mothers orientation is not in question. Now if you want to talk shi* lets do it. I'm finally letting all the skeletons out of the bag. Tracy Monniger was fired because Robert Boyles needed to save his ass because he made a comment about one of her agents being gay so he threw Tracy under the bus. Jack HAgerman was fired because he was busted for smoking pot... If Beth isnt fired yet she needs to be because she does it just as bad. Lauren Bogle makes derogatory comments all the time to other agents about other agents performance. Mike Fox tells people that Sonya is bi-sexual and frequents gay bars. John Sawyers hits on every guy in the building and has nude pics all over the web. Tony Fitzko gives his cell out to any girl on his team and often sends sexually explicit messages. Gary Roberts beats his wife. Renne Perkins is just a dumb-a**. Luke Sullivan and Damian used to fu** each other. Michelle Walkers last name is NOT walker...ask her about it and find out why. Raven Payne will sleep with anyone who asked. Jaron boyd is banging both the boys and girls....shall I continue??? All you people have dirty little secrets and don't think they are so secret. I know just about every dirty little thing that goes on at Echostar....shall I continue???

You know what? Screw that place for firing Jack if it was over pot. He was cool as hell and ive walked into the bathrooms and seen lots of different people snorting cocaine/pills.
Honestly if everything the person above me has said is true than i cant stop laughing.

I don't know who you are "former employee" but you are dead on about some of this stuff. Some of it I didn't know about but there is truth in your words. The two sisters you mentioned, I havent really been around them alot but I dont like Ashley she seems real fake. Jack was a really cool trainer and if they fired him for that then they need to do "real" drug tests on the "upper" management, unreal. At one time Tracy Monniger was my coach and she was the best. She cared about us and fought tooth and nail for agents, even those that werent on her team. Hell I used to call in and ask for her instead of my own coach cause I knew it would get done. She is a really cool person and she is over that place. Don't you people know that a lot of her friends are GAY!!! You look dumb accusing her of something everyone knows she would never do. So Robert Bowles and his lies didnt work to break her spirit cause she is still the bomb. Michelle is very mean and nasty to people. I dont like her and its so funny when you see her and her husband out in public with his pants rolled up and tucked into his boots. They are both stuck in the 80's. I hate having to see her everyday. I look at part of my check as being paid to watch the manager show. Tony Fitzko, yeah he is a playa but he aint hurting nobody. Overall really cool dude. I miss Tracy and I know that I am also speaking for anyone that ever reported to her cause she was a good coach and person. Firing these long time employees is so bad, Miss Patty Saunders was a good employee and they let her go for some ridiculous stats they wanted, goals that cant be met. She worked there for years and years.

I remember Tracy, she was such a nice person. I also remember how Robert Bowles treated her when he first became a manager. She was a breath of fresh air in that sad sad place. I really don't like Michelle at all. I called in once because my daughter was ill and she talked to me like I was nothing. I will never forget that. Just a really rotten person. But, there are some good people in there. Atleast when I worked there, there were. Is Latoya there still? Boy talk about someone that was mean to agents and got away with it. Oh well, glad I am no longer there and I hope that Tracy is doing well. Matter of fact I know she is, because she is real and not all about being fake and treating people bad. She was so good to me when I worked there. She didn't deserve this and I know that she didn't do anything bad to anyone. When did she leave? You guys that are still there need to get together and rid that place of the problems and double dealers.

The only way to do that is burn that shit down lmao.

Im about to quit that job because the pay is good but its just a horrible place.

If your going to work there do the training for 6 weeks and throw in applications near the end because once you hit the floor, that place blows and you will hate it.

What other call centers are around this area if anyone knows?

Before founding Dish Network, Charlie Ergen and Jim DeFranco both tried their card counting skills. A one time, professional blackjack player, Ergen and DeFranco were both thrown out of a Las Vegas Casino.

Thirteen states charged that Echostar, parent company of Dish Network, had not disclosed termination fees to potential customers and had debited customers' bank accounts for hidden fees. The company settled the lawsuit, paid $5 million, and promised to disclose all terms prior to signing contracts with potential customers

In 1980 Ergen and Jim DeFranco, a gambling buddy, tried their luck at the blackjack and poker tables in Las Vegas, Nevada—they were both considered professional gamblers at the time. Both men were ejected from the town after being accused of counting cards at blackjack; while looking for something else to do, they saw a truck carrying a huge satellite-television dish. Ergen frequently starred in his own TV show Charlie Chat , which consisted of infomercials and calls from DISH Network subscribers. On one occasion Ergen made a heartfelt pitch for pay-per-view movies, then quickly changed the subject to offer a free trip to Ireland and free installation for equipment upgrades, and then switched the subject again to express his staunch views on a particular matter of federal legislation. To top it off, Ergen described his feud with the owner of a small group of television stations who had forced him to drop two stations from his network, and then he suggested that his viewers call the station owner to complain about it.

Ergen, the onetime professional gambler, was often described by friend and foe as unpredictable, wily, mercenary, renegade, daring, dueling, combative, ironfisted, or scrappy. Known to everyone as "Charlie," he earned a reputation as a fierce and respected competitor. He was also accused of pennypinching—requiring employees to double up in hotel rooms and take cheap airplane flights in order to save company money.(He followed those cost-saving rules himself.) Ergen's passion for winning was once noted by Jimmy Schaeffler, chairman of a media and technology research firm: "If people won't deal with him at the table one on one, they'll deal with him in front of their shareholders or in the courtroom" ( Time, August 20, 2001).

The following are excerpts on the DISH SEC latest filing which you may want to know about and be concerned about:

"FCC Actions Affecting our Licenses and Applications:"

"A number of our other applications have been denied or dismissed without prejudice by the FCC, or remain pending. We cannot be sure that the FCC will grant any of our outstanding applications, or that the authorizations, if granted, will not be subject to onerous conditions. Moreover, the cost of building, launching and insuring a satellite can be as much as $300 million or more, and we cannot be sure that we will be able to construct and launch all of the satellites for which we have requested authorizations. The FCC has also imposed a bond requirement for up to $3 million for each of our fixed satellite services satellite licenses, all or part of which would be forfeited by a licensee that does not meet its diligence milestones for a particular satellite."

"We currently have no commercial insurance coverage on the satellites we own and could face significant impairment charges if one of our satellites fails. Generally, we do not carry launch or in-orbit insurance on the satellites we use. We currently do not carry in-orbit insurance on any of our satellites and do not use commercial insurance to mitigate the potential financial impact of launch or in-orbit failures because we believe that the cost of insurance premiums is uneconomical relative to the risk of such failures. If one or more of our in-orbit satellites fail, we could be required to record significant impairment charges. We may have potential conflicts of interest with EchoStar due to our common ownership and management. Questions relating to conflicts of interest may arise between EchoStar and us in a number of areas relating to our past and ongoing relationships. Areas in which conflicts of interest between EchoStar and us could arise."

paying for these same packages:

Dish Top 120 $39.99 =$20.00 more a month -$240.00 a year more
Dish Top 200 $57.99 =$25.00 more a month -$300.00 a year more
Dish Top 250 $65.99 =$23.00 more a month -$276.00 a year more

If you are paying more than these prices above, then you are really getting screwed by Dish™. This is what most Dish™ existing subcribers are now paying with the recent price increase in February, 2010. I have received emails that some are paying more than this in some areas for some reason?

SUES AIR DOC SERVICES, A PRINCETON
CONTRACTOR, FOR DECEPTIVE BUSINESS PRACTICES

Attorney General Darrell McGraw filed suit today against Richard "Rick" Gibson and Glenda Marlene Gibson, doing business as Air Doc Services, for refusing to complete contracted work and then refusing to refund consumer’s deposits, among other deceptive business activities. Attorney General McGraw’s Consumer Protection Office seeks a preliminary order from the Mercer County Circuit Court to shut down Air Doc because of numerous violations.

Air Doc is a heating and air conditioning company that contracted with consumers to supply and install heating and air conditioning systems in Mercer and surrounding counties. The Attorney General’s Office received several complaints that Air Doc would cash consumers deposits but not supply the heating and cooling equipment or provide the work required by the contract. Customers that contacted Air Doc discovered that Rick and Marlene Gibson would provide numerous excuses on why their systems were not installed. Other consumers complained that Air Doc simply quit answering the phone and did not return messages inquiring about their systems. Consumers didn’t get their cash deposits back even though Air Doc never did the work.

"Our office will continue to take action against contractors preying on West Virginia consumers," said Attorney General McGraw. "Because Air Doc and the Gibsons made numerous misrepresentations, consumers willingly gave them hard-earned money even though Air Doc had no intention of installing the heating and cooling systems."

The lawsuit, filed in Mercer County, seeks injunctive relief, restitution for those affected, civil penalties, costs, and attorneys’ fees.

I worked for Echo-Star several years ago, around 2001-2004. At that time it was an outbound call center...upselling prgramming and getting new customers. The pay was pretty good then, nothing like it is now though. I have a couple family members that still work there,one has been there for around 5 years and the other since before it was Turner Vision.Basically they are both still there because of the pay. Neither of them seem to really care about the management. When I worked there Michelle was a coach and was then promoted to a manager. Everyone forms there own opinions of the job. I guess if you stay out of the "drama" it can be an ok job for the pay. Ofcourse I am thinking it has to be better then when I worked there...it is inbound now.

Former employee your dead on the money about everything that you said. I've been there 7 yrs and let me tell you the things that goes on in that place is unreal. For RB his time is coming because he is not in the managments clique so when it comes time to fire a manager he will be next and he gets what he deserves because he is a snake in the grass. Ill spill a lil more on the Foxes, he didnt think that the last baby that they had was his because they are swingers and that came from one of his agents when he was a coach. As for Michelle we all know that she F*cked her way to the top by screwing KB and ne one else. Her husband is bi sexual he does his thing and she does her thing. As for BT he is just as bad as the others up there, He gets his pills from KH and she shld have been gone a long time ago but y fire someone who supplies your pills. They concept is to get rid of the veterans because we know all the dirt on everyone up there. As for the sisters i havent heard that one but no doubt its true. Yes they fired a coach for something that wasnt even true but that ok cause she doing excellent and loving it. As for JA she cant even go a day without asking an agent a question that she doesnt know because she came back as a coach because she is in good with michelle... kiss a$$ and youve got it made but then that still dont matter and make you wonder if you walk in that morning are you going to get fired. To be completely honest i love the pay and then ppl i work with but other than that when i leave ill let MW know i know all the dirt on her and the others. It will be a godsend when i get fired to be completely honest.
