Junk Store as Bill says wrote:
<quoted text> Bill...What is it that you do for a living? I own a Primitive store in the mall & rocked the house since I opened the doors..I think that people like you who need to focus more on maybe trying to better yourself and better your life and future have you thought that maybe you should try to open a store @ the mall since you have such a great vision of what needs to be there??...I work my butt off every single day.@ business and a full time job to boot..The craft store that you call junk is PRIMITIVE HOME DECOR Thank You! It is actually a pretty big thing around here to a whole lot of people and has been for some time now...VERY SORRY YOU FELL THIS WAY!!
I am an accountant if you must know. I think you missed the point of my post which was that Mercer Mall is dying a slow death. I'm sorry if you took offense, it was not my intention to offend anyone. I'm happy that your store is doing well, I'm all for the independent business owner. However, a shopping mall cannot survive soley on independent businesses. A thriving mall will attract major retailers that have mass appeal. Our mall has slowly lost these types of businesses. I'm sure you'll agree that if more major stores came to Mercer Mall it would only increase traffic and benefit your store.

He is right. I do my school shopping at either Roanoke, Charleston, or Greensboro. I like this mall but my kids want the clothing all the other kids wear and for that I need to go to GAP, Abercombe, and Aeropostale. Its not that I want to go this far its just thats where the stores they want are.

Real Deal, the Bargain Store, Roses, Bonworth, primitive stuff....that's not what people go to a mall for. This mall doesn't even have a place to get pizza or a burger.

Its funny that people are saying put a mall close to exit 9 not to long ago nothing was really close to exit 9 until wal mart came to town now look at it and people say wal mart runs people out of town it looks like to me they bring in the business same goes for bluefield,VA. Just think what Bluefield, WV would have became if they would have wanted wal mart. The taxes wal mart pays to the community does a lot to help the community. I think they should bring a mall to exit 9 also it sad to go in mercer mall and I hate driving so far to go to the good ones. and I don't think its the economy around here because so many people around here are on a check so they can afford the good stuff...lol

I don't think people are locating at exit 9 to be near Wal-Mart, it's more that they want to be near the I-77/RT. 460 traffic flow. That's one the reasons Wal-Mart located there.

Sure Wal-Mart is a center for commerce so it sure doesn't hurt to be near the traffic they generate. However, don't be misled into thinking Wal-Mart contributes to the municiple tax base. That's the reason they located outside of the city limits was to avoid City B&O taxes. They actually have the opposite effect on city taxes because they put small businesses in the city out of businesses or businesses move out of the city (Radio Shack, Cellular One, Cato, etc) to be near Wal-Mart's traffic and the city loses that tax revenue, but I digress.

A shopping mall near I-77 makes perfect sense. Either at exit 9 or even exit 14, which will soon start developing. The reason I'm unsure if a mall could survive in our area today is because so many people here "are on a check." A welfare check sure is not the way to support an economy. That alone tells you we are in trouble.

I think a Mall right near East River tunnel would be good so people can do what they do in Princeton...Drive a few yards away from Highway to eat and then get back on it.

I hate to tell you that people do go to the mall for primative! I know that I'm not the only one. I'm sure that the primative places would also be able to prove you wrong.

I suppose there must be some niche for the primitive stuff but it just doesn't appeal to me. That's cool though I guess there's something for everyone.

Its not a niche its a female thing and last time I checked female shopper do most of the family purchases for the household so places like the mall and walmart are smart and cater to women and their shopping needs. Why would they listen to men and their feedback when most dont like to shop.

Mercer Mall is a joke. Maybe they will close the parking garage this spring and make the mall an indoor flea market.

It isn't a "female thing". It is a personal preference. I decorate my house in a modern style. I do not prefer primitive. I am not saying anything negative about primitive decor or the store at the mall, I'm just trying to make a point that not all females adore primitive decor. I do have one thing to say, the primitive store, from what I have observed in passing, looks nice, clean, and organized. I wouldn't classify it as a "junk store".

The mall is sad and dying fast. Remember old Raleigh Mall in Beckley or Crossroads and Tanglewood in Roanoke? This is how their decline started...fortunately for them a newer mall came soon after. Not sure that will happen in our case. Mercer Mall is starting to look like Claypool Hill Mall! In a few years we'll remember these as the good ole days when our mall actually had a Roses! Whoopie!

the whole mall sucks, I do agree the only thing worth a damn there anymore is that small craft place.(even though i'm not into that, a few people I know visit it whenever they go to the mall) Roses is better than anything else there. It's all dead.
I can't even think of any other businesses in there besides the food? What's left? NOTHING

We avoid the mall completely because it's so horrible. I'd rather drive 30 mins to go elsewhere than have to step foot into the mall.
