If there's reason to be suspicious about the step father's activities, then there's NO REASON he should be around the child, at all. However, if he's a good Dad to the child, WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL? I think it's terrible that things are so bad in today's society that a child can not sit on someone's lap without question arising...

Would you let your child sit on his/her biological father's lap at 10 years old...? Some would say no --- because of certain circumstances, which is totally understandable. Some would say "absolutely; he's a good dad, I have no reason to worry..." What's the difference between a step-father and a biological father?? Sperm. A man can NEVER reproduce, but be an awesome DAD! In the same breath, a man could have 20 children and still not be a Dad...

If there's any reason you feel you should question a 10 year old sitting on his/her stepdad's lap, then there's probably reason to believe it's not okay...but if there's reason to believe there could be some kind of inappropriate activity (that would make you question if it's okay), I wouldn't have him around the child at all...that's just me, though.

This is the problem these days, an adult of any age 18+ cannot be seen with a child or any person 18 or younger without others "thinking" that the older person is a pedo

Walking around with young family members or cousins, you have in the back of your mind that people are judging you and saying oh that person is a perv or something. It's hard for an innocent person to be seen alone in public with a younger person without everyone thinking the child may be in danger or the person is a pervert.

things have changed so much, ugh.
Just sayin

There is a forum talking about this in another state and guys r getting advice and sharing experiences about their daughters turning then on by just sitting on their lap they talk about the clothes the child's wearing and the effect that has and what they do when this happens (bathroom break) they also share when to take it to the next step and it all leads to them having sex with there own child this is all under the updated forum below the web site u click on. Before I read this. I would never have had a problem with a child sitting on their dads lap but the thought now just makes me sick. what's wrong with people?

This is so crazy. I live very far away from my dad and my step dad. And I am very close to the both of them. And when I see them I jump in their arms and I Am 25yra old. An sure I have sit on both their laps. WTF they are my dad. And my step dad is just like my father. U have to be one sick person to even think to put something like this on here. If he has no done nothing then so what and I he has then he should not be there in the first place.

I want to apologize for sounding rude with my first comment to this post --- by no means do I mean to come off rude, to anyone. Here's my take on this situation:

In conducting a Sex Offender Search, using the State Police's public data base, I found 3,150 offenders in West Virginia; 103 of those are in Mercer County and 48 are in the city of Princeton. Approximately 3/4 of those cases dealt with children, which really does make you evaluate who is around your children. However, I honestly do feel that if there is any reason to question whether or not your son/daughter is safe sitting on his/her step father's lap, you may want to re-evaluate some things. I could be completely missing why you're asking this question, but I immediately associated it with the idea that you're concerned about something sexual...then, upon re-evaluation, I thought that maybe you could be concerned about what others may think...
That changes things --- if you KNOW without any doubt that he is good to your children and would NEVER hurt them, I don't see where there's an issue. If there's doubt, make sure you're around or simply explain to your child that it's just not something that you don't think they should do. Affection is NOT illegal and there's nothing wrong with a father/daughter bond. Just make sure that, if you're uncomfortable with certain things, you share your concerns with your spouse (if necessary) and break the habit of the child, without completely breaking the bond. Good Luck!!

And I agree. If u are having to ask If it is ok then it's probley not. Go with your heart. I know that if I even had that question to cross my mind then no I would not allow it. But I would not allow the man around my child either. Because their must be something about him that you have a bad feeling about. So just go with your heart. And usually what we think is true.

shooting star made it sound like she or he was reffering to someone else letting their 10 yr old sit on their stepdads lap, as if shooting star felt it wasnt to their approval, thats just my take on it.

if its yor 10 yr old and you have no doubts about her stepdad there shouldnt be a problem, but yet you wouldnt be asking that question if you didnt have a problem with it, always follow your instincts.
