I'm all for a freeway.
Another four-lane with traffic light after traffic light lined with stores and gas stations? No way! And that's what they seem to be going for. Build it now or pay several times later what it would cost to build now.
I'm also for the interstate designation for the new freeway all the way to the coast. It makes more sense than business, bypass, and alternate US 70 highways.
The point of highways is so that people not familiar with an area can find their way. Can you imagine not being from around here traveling US 70 at night when it's raining. It can be very confusing to follow the route to the coast. The business and bypass signs are small, easy to miss, hard to read in time considering the gaggle of signs at some intersections.
So I think they should build the freeway, and designate the route an interstate highway. I-48 is available.
