I'm sorry for your problems but do you really think that this cesspool of a website will provide answers to an obvious medical issue? You really need to contact your dr. who then can get you in touch with a specialist. Many People here can barely spell their own names, much less dispense medical advice.

The OP stated blood work and X-rays were done and showed nothing wrong. Obviously a doctor HAS been consulted.

I'm not a doctor but my step dad went through something like this when he was turning 5 and I asked him what they did to diagnose him. Has there been any change in diet lately? Has red meat been eliminated by any chance? A doctor can confirm by a different blood test than a CBC if he is deficient in any meat proteins.

If red meat has NOT been eliminated from his diet, then that rules out the specific deficiency I'm thinking of. But if he hasn't had any in a while, then please discuss that with your son's doctor as it is a VERY important clue into the mystery of his sudden illness.

The symptoms my step dad had when he was first diagnosed were sudden fatigue, muscle cramping, inability to walk or crawl, and he had severe headaches as well. Again, I am NOT a doctor, but I have heard him talk about this several times in my life and after reading your post, it sounded too familiar. Please ask the doctor to do a blood test to check for a protein deficiency, and if that blood test comes back negative for any problem, get a consult to Vanderbilt. There definitely is something wrong... Just gotta figure out what. Protein deficiency sounds like the culprit to me though.

Topix: Absolutely the first place I'd go for diagnosis of a medical problem.

This wasn't the first place the OP went. Blood tests and X-rays came back clean. A simple question was asked if anyone else had heard of something like this.

As um... was referring to, Kwashiorkor disease (most common in Southern Africa) is due to lack of meat proteins, however are more chronic symptoms than acute...

Did your son have recent "flu" like symptoms, sore throat, or any other ailments?

Does he complain of pain (which is why he doesn't walk)? Or is it the inability to do so?

I had a friend in high school who would become paralyzed from the waste down if he had anxiety. What does the child have to say for not walking? Have you offered an incentive such as going to Walmart to pick out a toy? I realize it seems to be a physical condition, but my curiosity leans toward self diagnosis. Is the child having any neurological symptoms such as shaking, cramping, petite mal seizures? very interesting situation. My prayers are with you.
Thank You!!

Thank you so much. There was no way I could spell that. And yes that is what my step dad has. He had some blood issues with his birth that were rare and that is the reason his doctor gave for him acquiring the illness. I really just hope the kid gets tested. And some answer can be found. If this is the problem, it had such an easy treatment.

Yes because when a definitive diagnosis has stumped actual medical professionals, the next logical step is Topix where the collective IQ reaches triple digits MAYBE!!!

Thanks for all the prayers!!! Went back to the doctor today and still dont know anything, and as far as people thinking im crazy for putting this on topix- when something is wrong with your child you will do anything and everything to find some answers and yes there are idiots are here but their words dont mean s*** to me.

As for the red meat, he doesnt really eat it, i will mention this to his doctor.

Still like to know how the child responds when asked why he won't walk. Is his legs failing to do their job or is he refusing to try? Give us more to understand.

I completely agree. Just because Topix has gotten a horrible reputation with all of the gossip that goes on, doesn't change the fact that the site was created for people to voice opinions, ask general questions, and seek out information from anyone who might happen upon it who has a clue.

I'm glad to hear that the doctor is still looking for information. And in the mean time, give your son a couple of cheeseburgers. It might make a difference. Hopefully he has enough strength to eat something. You still have my prayers. Please let me know what the doctor finds out. At this point, I just really want to see a post that he's up and playing again.

Omg. Let it rest. No one posted on this in nearly two months and then you bring it back up. You should apologize for being a moron, not for other people.
