Has anyone noticed just how loud that plant is when it's blowing off steam?

I know people discussed the environmental impacts...smell, polution, light, etc...but noise?

How often will they have to blow those steam valves? I work in the area and it's loud enough that you can't use your cell phone to make a call cause neither party can hear anything other than a steady roar of escaping steam if your outside. I hope that won't happen at night!

Don't buy anywhere in Hopewell or Petersburg. If you are coming to Fort Lee- choose Prince George, Colonial Heights, or Enon (Chesterfield).

This advice is sad but TRUE. Hopewell has become more and more run down and drug infested and the City officials just done care. Some areas look like something you would see in the media referencing a third world country. As long as these officials are receiving their hefty paychecks, you are on your own. It is sad that it has come to this but with

To the MOM, please come to the area and check us all out. Then decide for yourself what area is suitable for you and your family. They all have positive and negative parts. Only you can decide by taking your time and judge for yourself. Thousands of military have come here only to stay when they retired, that says something don't you think?

Thanks everyone. We are trying to learn about the areas while we are here but we will be looking to buy quite quickly after moving because we want the kids to be able to go to school without keeping them out for too long. I just don't want to be unpleasantly surprised by finding out about loud plants or ganglands or any other sort of unpleasantness after it is too late.

We're probably going to focus on the Chester/Chesterfield area.

Good idea. Get as far away from Hopewell as you can. Unless you want your kids to get an urban education and have easy access to drugs.

GI Joe, you are describing every city in America, Read the studies that are published almost weekly now, school kids have easy access to drugs, prescription or not in any and every locality nationwide. Yes I agree that Hopewell is not the town That I grew up in anymore and it has gone downhill, but it does not face anymore social problems than the next town. I have a friend that I grew up with that is a teacher in Prince George, He lives in Hopewell, he has the choice to either place his children in PG schools since he teaches there or have then go to Hopewell where they live. Guess what? They go to Hopewell!!! His take from being a teacher in Prince George is that they have the SAME problems Hopewell faces but on a much larger scale

Hopewell is still a great town with a lot of potential. We are being held down by rental property owners(slum lords) that don't want to see thier golden goose killed off. The more riff raff allowed to take over, the more drugs come in and the more the GOBs(slum lords) will get richer. City council, manager etc. are in the pockets of the slum lords.
