Rick Newman told us that this race was about issues and experience. Instead he's become a dirty politician hurling attacks about candidates. Who wants a liar in office.

Newman is only stating the TRUE facts. Cloninger should have come clean at that start of the campaign about having past due taxes and that he had just paid them. It wasn't just one quarter that was past due, there were FIVE quarters.

Yes, they have been paid, but they were over 18 months past due when they were finally paid.

If he really wants our votes, he needs to be upfront from the start.

Guess you agree we can't trust Newman or his word! Cloninger had a heart attack, house fire, and the economy to deal with. He didn't lay off a single person. He made it through those tough times and paid his debts. I am more concerned about someone's truthfulness as CA. We need a NEW man, not Newman. Lies, harassment, and scandals is all I see on these boards. And Newman's explanation is GOBs did it. Admit your mistakes, Newman!

Duty, we are NOT doubting Cloninger had legitimate financial hardships. He SHOULD HAVE come out with this when he decided to throw his hat into the ring. He is the one who decided to keep his financial problems quiet. People can be very understanding when they know the facts. It makes me wonder what else he is keeping quiet.

I don't know why someone should discuss their personal finances as part of a campaign for CA. Newman may have delinquent credit cards. For all I know, he could be behind on his rent from Aaron's. I don't think it's any of my business. The CA office works within a budget given to it. The management of funds is a very minuscule part of his responsibilities. Trying cases in court, working with police, and dealing with the defense attorneys/judges/clerks is more important. It bothers me more that Newman said he wasn't a politician and that he was running on the issues. If Cloninger's finances are an issue with crime in Hopewell, I missed something. He lied to us y'all! Newman lied to each of us. If he will lie about that, what else has he lied to us about?

I agree with Traveled Path...Just The Facts, his financials have nothing to do with this and please tell me why he should have disclosed that in the beginning?.. and anyone with a brain knows IRS doesnt release liens IMMEDIATELY. How do you know when they were paid. Newman made a cheap shot (or waymack did, which you probably are Waymack) because he knows he has a huge competitor in this race. Vote Cloninger, a man of his word who wont stoop to dirty politics. It's pathetic and sad for a grown man to stoop to such low extremes because he is that threatened. Newman should be ashamed of himself for trying to discredit an honest man like Cloninger.

Cloninger's tax liens have nothing to do with his personal conduct but everything to do with his business and professional conduct. These were not his personal taxes. He withheld money from his employees and then didn't pay it over to the IRS. It wasn't his money not to pay. And you want him to be the chief law enforcement officer in the City. Really.....

Pegersburg Lawyer, we know.two things about you: 1) you support the invasion of a candidate's privacy and 2) you're not a lawyer. Cloninger didn't lay off a single employee he fought through this. Newman tried to take away money from the city to give to his employees. I feel more concerned about Newman's actions of taking away from the city hes supposed to be protecting. And forcing one of his employees to change jobs bc she felt uncomfortable by his comments. that's who you want as the chief law enforcement officer? Give me a break!!

Unfortunately, when someone doesn't pay his business taxes it is a matter of public record. His failure to pay money that doesn't belong to him goes to his ethics. And why did all of his lawyers leave at the same time? Was it their concern about his failure to pay those taxes?

If you don't pay personal taxes it becomes public record, too. Don't you think lying about campaign promises goes to ethics of a person? Newman lied about running a clean campaign. John Kirkland and Amanda Mann posted on a thread here that their departure had nothing to do with taxes or Cloninger. That question has been answered. Are you just trying to stir up unfounded questions that have been answered? You're dodging the dilemma that Newman lied to all of us!

It is too bad that you agree with them, as you are both WRONG.

NOT paying the money you withhold from your employees' taxes is TAX EVASION, subject to penalties and possible JAIL time.

It was NOT his PERSONAL money. He has a responsibility to pay that money before any other outstanding debt.

He is an officer of the court and is subject to upholding ALL laws.

I'm not sure how bright you are, but Cloninger CLEARLY stated in his ad in Hopewell News he fell behind, he CLEARLY stated he worked hard to repay it WITH interest... he CLEARLY stated that all debts were paid up... I'm not too sure why you think he wasn't held to any penalties... Cloninger is man enough to come forth and tell the truth, and also explained that with his heart surgeries and his house burning down, losing EVERYTHING, and not wanting to lay off any employees as they have families to feed too, it caused him to fall behind... it just shows that he is a normal human being, who fell on hard times just like most of us have in this economic downfall. He doesn't think of only himself, like Newman does. Must be nice to be as perfect as you, buddy, and Newman too!

But Cloninger and his supporters refuse to stoop to Newman's level to post the inappropriate and sick emails he sent to a member of his staff. I have seen them but if its one thing Cloninger stands for it is what is right. Hence they have not surfaced. But no Newman if she did not know you she would not date you. Ewe.

Yes, he finally did admit to it but just a short time before the election wasn't the time to do it. It should have been addressed as soon as he put his name on the ballot. I give him no credit at all for his belated announcement.
