She had minor injuries and witnesses say she walked in front of him. Nothing he could have done.. it was a pure "accident". that would be why

MINOR INJURIES??? She is a very close friend of my family. She is in MCV Trauma right now with:
Broken Hip
Broken Tibia
Broken Fibula
Broken Ribs
Broken Vertabrae
Broken Knee
and numerous other injuries, and yes I know I probably spelled some wrong. And no, according to witnesses at the seen she was half way across picket street when she was struck, meaning that she was allready engaged in crossing the street, she had the right of way at that point. The position of where the tires are marked on the road with paint also testifies to that point. Minor injuries do not require med-flight.
She is also in her 70's. these injuries could be devastaing.
A witness also stated that the officer turned onto Pickett from Mesa at a higher than normal rate of speed.

If he hit her, how come it hasn't been reported to the news? I wonder how this will effect his wife's campaign in Ward 4?

exactly, the 11 year old girl that was hit the same night had news coverage that night and all the papers the next day. The Richmond Times Dispatch just heard about it TODAY! It makes you wonder why.... The Progress Index had a Paragraph on it today with a quote from the chief stating that the person struck had minor injuries, one of the posts above says that the cars location was marked on the road. I was out that way today and looked at it and if that was the point of contact the person that was hit had to be SEVERAL steps in the road which would indicate that they had the right of way, yet another attempt by the police to keep the heat off of the department i wonder...
you misread the quote

This is the quote from the Progress:
"Keohane said that the victim suffered non-life threatening injuries and was flown to Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center in Richmond for further treatment."

He never said that she had minor injuries.

The reason the 11 year old girl made the news was that she was the victim of a hit and run driver. They were trying to get help finding the driver.

There was another pedestrian hit that night and it didn't make the news. It was not a hit and run so there was no need.

There is no cover up. The VSP agency is investigating, which takes time. Let them do their job and stop speculating.

if the injuries listed above are in fact correct, I would think they definately would be life threatening to someone in there 70's

This is a very tragic accident, this woman is 75 years old and wodowed, living alone and normaly takes care of everything at her home herself. If she has the injuries they're saying she has, I don't think she's ever going to be able to do the things she did before this accident. It's ashame the way the police drive in Hopewell, I see them at times driving at high rates of speed just to get pass a traffic light and turn then they turn their lights off, what's that all about. This didn't have to happen, safety has to be first and foremost in their minds when traveling in our cummunities. In my neighborhood, there are always children playing in the streets, I'm afriad for them. Powers to be really need to take a good look at this and as a citizen of this town and as tax paying citizens, we deserve to be able to walk the streets withour fearing being struck by the police.

Perhaps you should sign up for a ride a long with a police officer. Then you might learn why they have to have their lights on when going through an intersection and why they may then turn them off again. It could be that they were sent to an emergency and then were told to slow down as the situation had deescalated.

On the idea of children playing in the streets, they SHOULDN'T be playing in the streets. The streets are for cars. Yards and playgrounds are for playing.

If you are afraid of our police officers, make an appointment and speak with the Chief or his Major and address the problems you have with them, not in this public forum.

Our PD has professional, well-trained Officers who should have our support. Yes, there were a couple of bad ones within the past year and Chief Keohane handled that immediately and did not try to keep it quiet. There are many reasons that lights are used and as civilians we are not aware of what calls they may be on. It seems as if half of this forum supports them, half doesn't support them. I'd like to suggest that the next time you are the victim of a robbery,an assault, an accident, or any type of incident just go on Topix and post about it---maybe one of the members will come bail your butt out of the situation. The suggestion to go for a ride along was excellent. The PD is very happy to let citizens learn about the job they do and that would be a great way to find out that they just might not be the "jerks" you seem to think they are.

Accidents do unfortunately happen and it shouldn't affect the election. The two have zero to do with each other.

I hope she recovers soon and gets well with no lasting effects from this horrible accident!

And lets have SOME mercy for our Officers, they are OVERWORKED and OUTNUMBERED, UNDERPAID, and worst UNDERAPPRECIATED!!!

People should be more careful too, look both ways and all...but also maybe if the city would quit laying off our public works people they could keep hedges, trees, and lights working the way they should to keep the roads safer!

Boo hoo hoo. Welcome to the real world. Everybody thinks they're paid too little for the amount of work that they do.
Be thankful you haven't been replaced by speed cameras and automated donut eating machines (sorry I couldn't resist a good donut joke).

I was just wondering about your witnesses, do you have names? This family friend who is releasing medical information against HIPPA laws. Exactly what is a higher than normal rate. You really need to call the Hopewell Police to get information.

That is correct, HOWEVER, medical profesionals reveal the nature of the injuries to the next of kin and direct family. What I was asking was for the names of these family members or confidents that so willingly released the extent of the injuries.
Statements without names and dates are just personal statements not statement of fact.
