HOPEWELL - "...Prosecutors withdrew a first-degree murder charge against Donald J. Long, the 77-year old Las Vegas man who was accused of killing his wife 47 years ago in Hopewell..."
So now the "Hopewell idiots of persecutions" can devote their time prosecuting all those speeding tickets that the Sheriff of Hopewell and his thugs are writing on the unsuspecting motoring public on I-295. Go get them boys. I'm sure you can fabricate some kind of evidence so you can maintain your ineptness and screw more out of state citizens!!

Sadly, since the charge was not dismissed, you can bet that powers who lost and are embarrassed, will somehow "find" evidence and bring this gentleman back. Remember, the state attorney and police can not take losing so they'll be back until they get their way - "Attain A Conviction even at the expense of Justice" is their motto!

So what happens to Mr. Long, the victim here. He spent 5 months in jail. So he is what, a mistake and now just forgotten. What about reasonable compensation for what he was put through? I don't see the press or anyone in the States Attorney Office or the Police even giving this man a simple apology for what they put him through!! I now understand the name "Justice For All - Almost". Seems in Hopewell, just is for only certain selected favorites!!

So what happens to Mr. Long, the victim here. Surely the States Attorney and the Chief of Police will order that this victim will be compensated for the injustice they perpetrated upon him - dragging him from his home - in chains, and then putting him in jail for 5 months!! Or are they too damn arrogant to given even a simply apology! Shame on you and shame on the City of Hopewell as a whole for allowing such injustice!! SHAME.

P.S. Hey Justice for All - Almost, I now understand your handle. Sure seems true enough!!

Some people just shouldn't open their mouths or type words to post on a website without educating themselves. Know the facts before you choose to make ignorant comments.

Well there "Justice" do enlighten us since you seem to know more than what is already in print. Perhaps you, like that idiot "guilty" don't need evidence to condemn a hard working citizen like Mr. Long.

Mr. Long got Lucky because of:
A-the amount of time that has passed
B- his ex wifes testimony that could not be used
C-the contamination of the only evidence.

"forgotten Citizens" and "dang" are just stupid.
maybe if you lost a family member to murder, you would feel different

While I wouldn't, for even a moment, neglect the sadness and torment that the family of the victim is living with, I won't accept the notion that 2 wrongs make a right. In this country, thank God, government must produce "truthful evidence" before condemning - well, except in Hopewell VA that is. Yes, neither my family nor myself have never been the victims of any kind of crime (we are prepared to, and do, protect ourselves as appropriate)but it is not that which I fear, but corrupt government which results in people like Mr. Long being destroyed. What is the latest count, over 750 innocent victims of prosecutor and police being released from prisons because they have BEEN PROVEN INNOCENT? The latest man to suffer at the hands of corrupt and malicious cops and lawyers spent 30 years in jail for a crime he did not commit. What of his family 'lucky of North Olmsted, OH). Is their suffering any less severe? I think not. I guess by your comments, we can see where the real stupidly resides!!

TFC, any person that has been found guilty that is innocent is a terrible thing indeed. The man that spent 30 years and his family suffered a great loss. Fortunately we have advanced so far in technology and forensics that Police Depts. can do things now that were not even thoughts 30 years ago. Alot of this is freeing people that were wrongly convicted many, many years ago.
But on that note "death bed confessions" are also opening up old/cold cases leading to new investigations with todays technology that is adding to this as well.
Were investigators/Police supposed to take a blind eye to Mr. Longs ex wife coming forward? I don't think so. They said from the onset that it was an uphill battle and presented what they had to the Grand Jury who said to proceed with it.
I wonder what the outcome would have been if the blood evidence that they still had was not contaminated in handling.....
There was enough "evidence" presented to proceed with the case, only after that was evidence ruled inadmissable and or contaminated.

"Stupid" you say "Lucky" Sad you are so pathetic that you can't have a reasonable conversation about a serious and difficult topic. Shame on you!
Now the issue. Another point to consider here "Forgotten Citizen", is that when keystone cops and thug prosecutors, like the ones in Hopewell for instance, screw up, the victims of crimes are twice hurt! They too don't get justice, but hey, government buffoons don't care. They get paid all the same. They are the ones that people, like Lucky from Ohio and Guilty from Hopewell, should condemn. But hey, I guess it is easier for them to hide and name call instead of going out and correcting the injustice.

You made a valid point. However, the death bed confessions, and especially the one in this case, are always suspect. Far too often we see innocent persons in prison based on false confessions and false testimony. Why wait years and years. A sound to me like someone has a grudge, or in this case, the ex-wife is dying, so letís take someone else down! No, I don't buy such confessions, as of course, did the court, which IS the right decision. As far as the other evidence, maybe, but again, the entire point of this conversation is the stupidity and unprofessionalism that plagues many, many police and states attorney's office - Hopewell being just another example. Why was the evidence lost or deemed contaminated? What idiots! No, you can't get around the fact that they bumbled the case and in trying to make themselves look good, they harm Mr. Long. In America, need to return to the old American adage - let 9 guilty go if needed to protect the 1 innocent!! After all if you were Mr. Long, would you accept the turmoil he was forced to endure. I don't think so!!
