How about saving Holloman Middle School and High Rolls schools? The southern half of the state needs it more than northern half. We are always getting the shaft while you all make bank!

I'm wondering something else...for what purpose they're REALLY going to use the money. When I see "Sen. Jeff Bingaman said the economic recovery package was designed to stabilize the economy by creating jobs and preserving existing ones."

And I read these:
http://www.kob.com/article/stories/s970311.sh...

http://taosnews.com/articles/2009/06/23/news/...

http://www.kob.com/article/stories/S987567.sh...

And I know of at least one other interim principal in place within APS...I think "maybe preserving certain jobs isn't the right thing to do in this case".

Can the state use this money to go after our education system's administrative staffers and get a more competent team in place? Wouldn't that have better long-term benefits for the kids?

I'm specifically thinking APS, but there are obviously other school systems that are having their own problems.

And let the corrupt wasteful spending begin. There needs to be an independent audit of every school district budget before any of this money is handed out. Once the audits are complete...the full, un-edited, audit should be presented to the public for review, then questions answered. I would bet that there are tens of millions of dollars being stolen, hidden, and inappropriately spent. After that is done...the money is handed out accordingly. Every other year these full audits should continue...and if any criminal activity should be prosecuted. This is our (taxpayers) money and I am sick and tired of it being wasted. This is not stimulus money...this is welfare for the government entities who have wasted what they were given in the first place. The federal government will have the states begging for more money...then the stranglehold will be in place. This state is a welfare state already...this is just continuing it up the ladder.

Maybe Rio Rancho will finally get to finish their new multi-million dollar high school. It probably won't be enough to staff it and open it, but at least they can show it off to Father Obama the next time he comes to town...

Maybe we should be calling for federal oversight of the state AND local school systems.

It seems across the board that people are able to be hired by anyone and fired or put on admin leave on a regular basis.

What is going on with our overall system? Where is the oversight to stop these problems?

Figured it was a matter of time before some idiot brought in politics into this. People can't be happy their tax dollars are going to a state that has a graduation rate that is 48th in the US? I'm sure it will go to the school system and I'm glad to still pay New Mexico taxes. Hope the money helps.

You'd be a fool if you think any of this money will be of any benefit to the children attending these schools, you live in Liberal New Mexico - all the money will be absorbed in "Administrative expenses" or to contractors that donated heavily to campaign funds for the winners of the last election.

I live in a state yes, but Liberal or not, regardless of who's in charge, I'm sure a chuck will be taken. If it was Conservative New Mexico, I'm sure the money would be in the same hands of a government person who wants their cut. Of course without proof of your accusations I can't agree with you, but regardless, I can't see New Mexico getting much worse regarding education.
