Well...we received a clarification in the mail today from Janet Stumbo setting the record straight on what her last name is. As I finished reading the letter..I got the impression that she is embarrassed about being married to Ned. At least she has now made it clear that the floyd county stumbo's are not her kin folk..and she will probably now lose a bunch of votes that she would have otherwise had.

I won't cry too hard over that.

This is for you Ex Demo...If you are a man then you are a sexist pig. Who ever said that a woman has to take a man's name? There are no laws that say that she has to its only a social thing. You know it used to be that the spouse with the least money coming into the marriage was the partner that had to take the other family name. Man or woman. Which means that if Janet has more money...and she probably does...Then Ned should be "Ned Pillersdorf Stumbo."

I personally think that being associated with the Stumbos already in office would be a hinderance. They haven't done anything for E.Ky.

I'm not very smart, there are lots of things,I can't understand. Would you mind telling me when or what periods in history did some men take women's last name? Would you please give me an example where the male took his wifes last name in their marriage? There may be many and it's just my ignorance.

The Royal Family name of Windsor was confirmed by The Queen after her accession in 1952. However, in 1960, The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh decided that they would like their own direct descendants to be distinguished from the rest of the Royal Family (without changing the name of the Royal House), as Windsor is the surname used by all the male and unmarried female descendants of George V.

It was therefore declared in the Privy Council that The Queen's descendants, other than those with the style of Royal Highness and the title of Prince/Princess, or female descendants who marry, would carry the name of Mountbatten-Windsor.

This reflected Prince Philip's surname. In 1947, when Prince Philip of Greece became naturalised, he assumed the name of Philip Mountbatten as a Lieutenant in the Royal Navy.

The effect of the declaration was that all The Queen's children, on occasions when they needed a surname, would have the surname Mountbatten-Windsor.

For the most part, members of the Royal Family who are entitled to the style and dignity of HRH Prince or Princess do not need a surname, but if at any time any of them do need a surname (such as upon marriage), that surname is Mountbatten-Windsor.

It may have happened only for royalty but it did happen.

If you aren't that smart then maybe you should get out of these hills once in a while or maybe read a book or two.

You can read can't you? Or is someone doing it for you?

Thank you for your kind data. As I told you, I don't know much and slow to understand and I appreciate your kind remarks. I thought or Mommy told me we broke of relationships with Great Britian in the 19700's during some kind of war. Mommy said we Americans did'nt like the customs and the big hand or the Royalty of Britian over us for some reason and whatever that means. But now I understand, our customs are old fashion and out of date. I for one am glad Ned is or may set a new trend in America. I know and my hubby can't deny it, I had $9,000 when we got married and he did not have a pot to pee in, I bought him a car. He has all our money now, but in 1960 he had nil - Zero. I am going to shame him to do as the Brits (once) did and take my last name. Again thanks for the information and I hope Ned and Janet gets these silly "old time homie" customs out of us all.
