Why do we have to chose between a healthy economy and a healthy community?
Why do we have to chose between feeding our families and taking care of the environment?

We shouldn't have to y'all! Few other places have to make choices like this. There are other industries that make it less of a hardship if one of them goes down.

What do you think we could do to bring new industry to this area? What industries do you think would come?

Let's address these questions as a group!(No politics, no bashing from either side, no b.s.) Let's talk about what we can do to make it better here because we deserve better.

The EPA here is fighting to keep from polluting the environment and going broke while we ship our coal to China so they can pollute the environment and make trillions!!! It defeats the purpose while our families go without food, shelter and basic necessities.

i know for a fact that 90 percent of the miners make that kind of money and more. some make over 100,000. <quoted text>
Great then after a decade of working they should be millionaires and don’t need the money so fire all of the lazy good for nothings.

Wait I have never seen a miner with a substantial savings account. Why are they all broke or still owe $80,000 on their $20,000 doublewides and I am not talking about the women.

They don't have a savings but they have a better plan. Stock in four wheelers, stretch pants, bootleg tee shirts and friends of coal stickers.

I agree except I would rather we use more modular homes rather than mobile homes.

Yep, furniture, textiles, hosiery, appliances, household cleaners, food, electronics...

There are a lot of things that we could be doing instead is sitting around belly aching about what we don't have or what we are losing. We need to get up off our butts and start doing what we can for ourselves. So what if coal is going to be gone soon, there are plenty of other things to be doing.

I forgot about the medical feild and medical supplies. Growing medical marijuanna is a good idea too. This area is excellent for agriculture. Then there is also wine. With the mountains here we are in a perfect place to be producing wine.

The list is endless...if only the people here would give it a try.

So you admit that coal miners are to dumb to do anything else and are nothing more than overpaid moles.

You have made one of the most insulting posts against coal miners I have ever seen.

If it wasn't for these tree hugging wackos as you put it you wouldn't have these beautiful mountains to call home. The coal mongrels would have destroyed it all long ago.

It isn't the tree huggers that are working feverishly to take away jobs its the coal monsters.

Yes hooray there are jobs in the mines that pay that kind of money, plus health insurance, retirement. These are jobs that support MANY families in E.Ky, W.V, VA, PA, and more not just here. An with these jobs taxes paid for schools, state aide, soc.sec, you know something you have to work an pay into so hopefully when you are older you can have an income, sure there are ways to improve coal technology, but don't think windmills would wok so great for us. Nobody is asking to be felt sorry for but a chance to feed, clothe, shelter our families. An as for women in coal mining, it is brute labor for the most part but,if any woman has qualifications, work. Nd there has been women in mines but, most cannot do the heavy labor jobs, not criticizing, just human nature that MOST women aren't as strong. Also mines do pay taxes, coal severance, and like I said issues need addressing but not complete annihilation.

Many owe way more than what you mentioned. They owe $6-8 thousand on that 4-wheeler that they have made six or seven payments on and trying to hide it from the lending institutions. That big bass or pontoon boat there are $17 -20 thousands owed on it and many will let them go back before winter. This will do something wonderful for their already low 60 credit scores. And they still struggling trying to keep that big $50,000 pick-up and that relatively new car. Those two or sometimes three vehicles and that double-wide is their main concern. They know if they can hold on to them and still have their beer nightly and those big T-bones, they have resolved in their minds that the lenders will eventually find their other toys, and so it goes ..........a

You have it all mostly right. But they owe any where from $18,000 -$20,000 on those 4-wheelers because a new one cost from $5,000 to $8,000 and in many cases daddy, mommy and Johnny or Alice has one too. When not on the lake on week-ends the family stays in the hills mostly all night and camp out or just use $30 to $40 or more in gasoline riding untill nearly daylight.

Daily Horoscope for May 23

Scorpio

You're in a very romantic and sentimental state today. You're also feeling quite sensitive and vulnerable, so you won't want to be around anyone you find abrasive or aggressive. If you meet someone for the first time now you'll think they're wonderful and your relationship will always involve putting them on a pedestal. But don't be too idealistic. They are human, remember!
