<quoted text> This has to be a joke. Two of the ill prepared principals I ever worked under. I taught under both. I'm still laughing. Coy told me a kid just had trouble (after the kid ( a football player) threatened to shoot my whole classroom of 36 kids and me. When I called down to tell him; he just said, "He has problems" I knew for a fact that he had just thrown another one out of school for same reason--only this other child was NOT a football player.
As for Hampton, he was quoted in the Floyd Co. Times as saying," I see nothing wrong with what Mr. Poe did." The thing he did was copy Lee County High School's curriculum guide. While Poe was being paid to do one for Prestonsburg; he decided to use a friend's guide instead; and bless his heart, Hampton didn't see anything wrong with cheating!!!!!!!!!
cheating by copying a curriculum? The question is it a good curriculum? Who cares where it comes from.

Ideally, Coy Samons and Ron Hampton would still be at Prestonsburg, and Paul Fanning would still be superintendent. Fanning was the best one Floyd County has had in quite some time, in fact he might be the greatest they've ever had.

Ethics is the problem. Each so-called Curriculum person at each schools are paid to do their own guide. I call that cheating. As for being a good one, it doesn't really matter. At Prestonsburg High, rules or guides or anything else does not place the students first. Also, just because you do have a guide does not mean that it means anything unless it is followed. This is just paper work. Believe me, I have seen it done so many times.

I did all I could do. In the Floyd County School System, there is a chain of command; and I followed it to the upmost of my ability. So my chain stopped with the principal. He was suppose to take it from there.

No, I never wanted in that crowd. I was at Allen Central and loved it there. No way, form or fashion would I have joined that group of snakes. Also, I taught my kids in school and my own kids to always, "To Thine Ownself be True." Do not join a crowd to get the easy way out. I could have been in that crowd had I been willing to gossip to the principals about other teacher; but that isn't me. I just will not sell my soul to get an easy way out.

True but Coy will never come back. He is in a school system that gives academics it's rightful place. I have a number of friends that have moved into east Ky to work at the prison. Do you know that everyone of them were strongly urged to live in Johnson County because both the County and City school were head and shoulders above Floyd. Every one of them, 7 families, live in the Paintsville area. So, what people don't understand is a lousy school system also makes economic development difficult. If I wanted to put a plant in this area, would I do it in a county where I knew neither my kids or my employees kids would get an education. In a school system that is at the bottom of the barrel? No. Thus Paintsville is growing in part because they have a good school system. I also know young couples, college educated who live here now but all say they will relocate when they decide to have kids. Why? The school system.
Johnson County is less than half the size of Floyd in square miles and pupulation. Yet, Paintsville is way ahead of p-burg. They have things to do there, they have a rec center that has live music every friday night for people to have something to do and they have a good sorta sportplex type for their citizens. Yes Floyc County is the "ass end" of East kentucky and p-burg is the capitol.

I hadnt heard that Dr. Fanning died. I know he resigned his job here to take a job in a school district in Georgia. By far he the best superintendent Floyd County has ever had. So much so, I think if the new school that consolidates South Floyd and Allen Central is built, it should be named in honor of Dr. Fanning.

People you need to wake up your children make of school what you have taught them . If you have raised stupid noncaring people then that is what you get . All schools are the same there are good teachers and bad if your children are just putting in time then that is what you get. You have to raise children that respect education for them to get it . I raised one that was very smart and did not study much but got good grades . I raised one with dislexia that worked hard for c and d's , But both had respect for education and teachers and both gratuated one college and the other mayo . Both make a liveing and do well in life . BUT WERE TAUGHT RESPECT AND RESPONSABILITY .

Given a choice 99 per cent of the students in Floyd County and surrounding counties would want to go to PBURG. 99.9 percent of the parents want to brag that their kid plays ball etc. at PHS. Go figure.....

If you said 99% would want to go to Johnson County if give a chance, your numbers still would be off but closer to the mark.

Paintsville may be a pretty decent school academically, but I wouldn't live in Johnson Co. for it. Some of the weirdest people in world.

Is Pburg going to be a charter school? I heard they had a higher quality of administrators, teachers, staff and students than any area schools. What makes them so much better?
