Found this on Craigslist and thought it dead-on:
Well, another September 11th has come and gone. Don't get me wrong. 9-11-2001 was a very horrible day in our nation's history. 3,000 innocent people died in the name of religion. But patriotism abounds. Memorial services are held. Heros are remembered.
Now for the bad thing...
Billions of our tax dollars are spent on making us "safer." People volunteer to be digitally stripped nude at airports-of course they are only watched by (hopefully heterosexual) people of their own gender. What a great place for a voyeur to work. Then of course, there's the "random" full-body pat down. What a great place for a pedophile to work! I feel good hearing that 6 year olds are getting patted down, don't you? We are safe!!
The government knows that there are too many explosive compounds that would never be found by these various type of "screening procedures," but we are told that it makes us safer, and we allow it to continue. These compounds can be found in any drug store, and when combined, create various chain reactions such as fire, explosions or noxious smoke. I took high school chemistry and know this. Why wouldn't a terrorist with unlimited money know this?
But still, we take our shoes off, and willingly get strip searched by x-rays. I feel very safe, don't you?
Why can't we use this money to secure our borders so that these people can't walk across from Mexico? Is it because it's not politically correct to publically say that there is in fact a problem? I'm of Mexican decent. My grandfather was born in Mexico and LEGALLY immigrated to the US in 1951. I'll be the first one to say that we need to secure our borders. Maybe start with signs that warn people that the US Border Patrol has permission to shoot first, ask questions later. Of course that's one sign I wouldn't mind being bi-lingual. Maybe arm the officers with M-16s so that they can defend themselves against the same type of weapons that the drug cartels have. Let's keep all the criminals out. There are proper ways of doing things, and if you want to come into this country, do like my grandfather did: Get in line!!!
But still, we will keep spending money. I want the illusion of feeling safe, don't you? I wonder how much money was spent this day? Overtime for the police officers because of a supposed "credible terror threat?" Maybe that's how the terrorists are going to do us in. Make us spend all the money on "security" until there isn't any money left.
Today the politicians paraded around for airtime, some couldn't care less about 9-11-2001 on any other day of the year, but if it's a reason for a photo op, they are there.
The only reason that you might be safer than you were on 9-10-2001 is because the general public is more aware, and NOT by anything that our government is doing.
You aren't safer from terrorists. They just choose to sit back and laugh at the US Government.
