I have been trying to find the answer to this question for awhile now. Can someone please tell me how many night shifts a store manager have to work in a week. My manager works only 4 night shifts in a month. Making her assistant managers work the rest.
Depends on your Dm. Company policy states 2 or 3, my Dm only had us working 1. as with every other DG policy, they change it to benefit them. I worked 2 and sometimes open to close on Sundays. I was a very fair Store manager. Most Sm will not do that.

I have been with Dollar General for over 6 years now. I am a store manager and I enjoy my job. It has its days and no the salary is not fantastic but DG offers me job security. My DM is great and truly cares. Hope things pick up for everyone. My point is Dollar General as a whole is not all bad. Dollar General is a chain therefore every district will be ran differently.
Just wait and see. There will be a Huffington Post article out soon about DG and How they treat employees. See for yourself how many complaints are on this forum.

I have only been at DG for a month and definitely feel like I am in the Twilight Zone! At this point I really need this position, however the policies and accountability factors are absolutely outrageous. I do not like the fact that as employess we are all viewed as potential criminals. Why hire us then? Having to frisk my self down in front of a camera whenever I leave the building is the most outrageous procedure I have ever heard of!

I had a dear friend, my mom and my daughter all working in management in different stores in alabama at the same time with same DM and He trated single and younger women with no children alot differenty than he did those middle age and married with pchildren, his reasoning was "If you can't spend the hours to keep the store stocked, cleaned, fronted and all the paper work completed I need to find someone with no other responsibilty, so they can fully dedicate themselves to this store, because if You can't find someone else to stay with your child at the hospital, your not dedicated to this position." The child was 18 months old and pnuemonia. She worked an average of about 70 hours a week and was often in the store by herself 2-3hours a day by herself because they would not allow her enough hours to schedule enough employees to cover every hour the store was open. It was basically the same way in all three stores. I think it had something to do with his bonus and him think men were better than women.

the dms perfer the store managers to close once a week as it was that way in every store in our region as they have to open on mondays for conference calls and truck day and sat to do payroll since mgrs are required to work pretty much 6 days weekly they prefer the managers open due to payroll bieng so low in most stores a gm can open and run the store by theirself everyday till 5 if needed which saves having to use afternoon cashiers as they cant work alone in my store i worked alone 4 shifts a week till 4 as not enough payroll hrs and the asst could close and work with the mgrs till 6 before bringing in a cashier and since mgrs hours dont count you can keep payroll down.

I think working alone in a business like DG is very dangerous. If you get robbed and shot, what part of the responciblity is DG going to take? I refused to work alone in the store. The area I was in was very dangerous and didn't even have a police dept. We had to wait on County police to show up 45 minutes to an hour after an incident. I explained this to my DM and he somehow managed to get me some extra hours. Then I got a new DM and he was a big D""k.

haven't been on this site in a very long time. BUT, i can see things haven't changed at this company and its the same complaints as when i worked there for 2 1/2 years, wasted time to me. i will have to start following this page again. i recently lost the email address to the person that pretty much started the lawsuit against DG. so if anyone should have it, please let me know. as for all those that were praising this company and their DM, let me tell you something. if you like it so much, hopefully none of you will be hurt while working or you will pretty much be out of a job. if your DM is so great, hopefully you will not be called stupid and an idiot in front of customers by him/her when you do your job and get things done ahead of schedual. i am hopeing against hope that this company does not move into the state where i moved to, cause if they do i will be opening my mouth to everyone i know, including on facebook to keep people from shopping at this place. this company hopefully will burn in hell and close soon for their practices. i used to call myself the DG slave, cause that is what i felt like on a daily basis when i left. felt like i was "used" on a daily basis.

There have been a few lawsuits out there, they have settled one for store managers not being able to manage. They have settled one for Female Store Managers being paid a lower wage than males. There is one now for discrimination against African Americans. There is a attorney in Alabama Hays law firm who is considreing taking on one for injured workers and using the RICO act to file it. But thats all I know for now.

why work for them then? besides anyone can run a DOLLAR general with half a brain! move on to better and bigger things ok now....
You would think anyone with a brain can run a retail store- but I have been with Dg only one month and the store I took over was in a mess and in 30 days I have gotten it back in line! Obviously team members who have been there 3 years or so cant do it- especially with the hours they give you to take care of business! I welcome your smart self with limited hours- basically doing everything yourself to handle a DG store! I managed a top 5 retail store with plenty of hours to make it happen- DG is a challenge because they give no hours! Just saying super star!

DG loves disposible employees. Pay them little, work them like slaves and then terminated once injured and forget about them. This is also politics. If you have a republican Governor your screwed when it comes to workmans comp lawsuits.

wow 30 days to bring it to model store, fill all the holes, retrain employees, all pog uptodate, all paperwork redone and organized, plus one million other little things and all with a low payroll budget. you truly are the that dollar general will think of as disposable. you cannot have great knowledge and maintain a job at dollar general. if you managed a top 5 retail store, why would you enslave yourself to dollar general. i have worked a top retail store also and it was labor integrated where you had your own job and you did not touch anything else without permission from the head of that department. that is the way dg should be. yes of course i know about the challenge, i always like a good challenge, but i have to tell you honestly it took me six months to to all that was needed to do and i was the third in district to get model store. but a good challenge and a good job are two different things. dont get injured and if you do dont tell your dm, you wont have a job for long. this is not even region but every dollar general. do not complain about your work, your scorecard will reflect lots of picky little things that will need to be done yesterday. oh well, it is nice to see something positive. can you tell me why you came on this site. research? cause most of us have been terminated wrongfully and most of us are hurt injured persons who got terminated so no workman comp. so if you get fired, come back and read more so you will know what to do. most of us on here read the horrible things dg does to us, some just want to vent, and some like me, tries to be a advocate to help others with what we know. good luck in your endeavors.

For those of you who still work for Dollar General, I thought I should let you know that they have RM's, DM's, and people from Risk Management check these sights for disgruntled employees. I know this because I managed a store in Nebraska and was confronted by my DM about a member of my staff who had posted a complaint on this site about DG (while he was still working at DG). My DM told me I had to fire the employee because of the post. When I asked my DM how Dollar General had become aware of the post my DM replied that there are members of Risk Management whose job is solely to check the internet for anything negative regarding Dollar General, particularly posts from employees. My DM also said HE was expected to do Google searches for local complaints and check employees Facebook pages for anything anti-DG.

Have you ever heard of the whistle blowers law??? You should have stuck up for your employee and also given them the information on whistle blowers. Also DG is suppose to have a no retaliation policy. I realize Dg makes their rules up to fit their needs. If you have this employees information, please ask them to check back here. I will give them some information. I no longer work for them, and I have a major lawsuit aganist them.

really. come on now. dollar general cannot know who these people are with the usernames people use on here and when you post it is not even the right location that is posted under the username. only if they put thier location and real name on here, then they will know who they are. and if those people are really doing this, then they would report back that we hate you dollar general. i am sure nofoolnomore was on my application. have any of you posters used your full name and location? this is free speech and we are entitled to it. we are entitled to our own opinions and telling our stories about what happened to us at dollar general. they could do something about people posting their comments and stories, yes they could treat people with respect and dignity, they could use thier policies and proccedures in the correct way instead of using them for when the time is right for dollar general. they could get the hint that something is really wrong with dollar general, treating employees like slaves, and they could make thier employees happy. treat them like real employees, pay them better, stop using the payroll budget as the first resort to profits for the upper management. i could go on and on about how dollar general if they really are watching this site and they are using it to find disgruntle emmployees, then they know something is really wrong with thier systems they have in place. if they really cared about what happens to thier employees, they would come on here and use this site as a tool to empower themselves to correct thier wicked way and make things right. instead of firing people, this site would be used if they really could find out who really is posting, use it against them to get rid of them with a poor excuse. ok dollar general, if you are reading this, please post your own comments on here about my post and any other post, tell us we are not allowed to say what we have been thru with your company. come on here and tell us we are wrong, that what we said is not true about your company. go ahead, hehe make my day.

Dollar General will continue to get away with this crap as long as no one speaks up. WE ALL have to be the squeaky wheel. We are the only ones that will be able to stop them. We have to get these stories to the national news and call or e-mail everyday, ALL of us. We have to be brave and strong. Do not let DG continue this practice. Get ahold of Dave Jaimison from the Huntington Post and give him your stories. I am hopeful with his help we can get this to the national news for coverage. They have done stories on WalMart and other types of companys with this type of wrongdoings. Send those letters and make those calls. Yell it From Your Roof tops. It's the only way to get this done. Ok , now I am off my soap box and working on a few more e-mails.

I am a current employee of DG, and our Loss Pervention guy told my SM that if I get written up one more time (have yet to be written up, to my knowledge) for "having my drawer short too many times" I will be terminated. I guess I can't be a total of a 1.92 short for three months. Let me also point out that I am a PT Sales Associate, working FT managers hours fr the past three weeks. I've been working register from 11-2, my lunch break from 2-3, and back on register from 3-9. Doesn't this company know that their employees aren't perfect.
