America’s gun laws are truly outrageous: in Colorado they allowed James Holmes to stockpile several weapons in a short period of time, including an AR-15 assault rifle with a high-capacity magazine, without ever registering the purchases with authorities. On the federal level, as we described yesterday, there are efforts underway to put guns into the hands of veterans with mental incapabilities, people on terror watch lists, and to weaken the federal bureau that enforces many gun laws.

Washington (CNN)– Last week's massacre in Colorado dominated the dialogue on Capitol Hill Tuesday as top Democrats called for a national conversation on gun control but declined to offer any new proposals on the hot button issue.

Citing the alleged shooter's use of an assault weapon equipped with a high capacity ammunition magazine that could fire 100 rounds, a group of congressional Democrats pressed for a ban on the sale of this type of ammunition. Similar legislation was introduced last year after a mass shooting in Tucson that left six dead and 13 wounded, including former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Arizona.

Why wasn't that legislation passed last year? What happened? Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Car deaths aren't murders.

and

The "guns don't kill people, people kill people" slogan would get your nose punched in Aurora, Colorado tonight.

Don't you figure?

I challenge one person to propose 1 gun control law
that could pass Congress AND would be worth 2 cents in stopping all violence .( or even 10%)

Actully your AK's kill more in wartime. In a civilian setting it's a 9mm or a .40... what you didn't know wwas the majority of gun realted deaths come from suicide or accidents. Murder & police shootings fall well below them. Insteas of outlawing a certain gun, perhaps the amount of guns or weaponry would be more of the answer.

OK , I own about 20 guns. Say we take 50% away, will that really
supress me?

How about smaller magazines? I'd feel MUCH better
if I was shot 15 times instead of 30.

It would if the law says you can only own four & all ammo has to be registered when purchased.... If it's a federal law & states quit with their "invidual laws" that would help. If you're at your "max" capacity then you will be in a databank that flags you & not only will you not be able to purchase...you'll get a knock on your door (you better have it on record somewhere you sold, destroyed, or reported it stolen) I'm pro gun, but it's people like James Holmes that's screwing it up for everyone. We need to find a compromise before they make laws around the constitution. A muzzle loader isn't the same as what we have today... that is when "the right to bear arms" was wrote, correct? It's going to get to a point they'll go house to house. Great grandpa's gun in the corner, unregistered & illegal (though only a memory of him) will be taken. Collecting will no longer be a hobby..it will be considered a threat against America. It's something to think about. I'd rather compromise than be left a sitting duck. The more people like James Holmes that surface & abuse our rights, the closer we are to being controled & left with slingshots. At this point it's not a left or right, or even the NRA running the show...it's the bad people who do very bad things.

When will you gun control advocates learn that American citizens have the inherent, inalieanble right to keep and bear arms?

We cannot allow the government to disarm the people. An armed citizenry is our last defense against a tyrannical government.

Read the 2nd Amendment, then let it slowly seep in to the dark crevices of your mind.

Then repeat the last clause..."The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

The person gun control is going to hurt is the law-abiding citizen. Criminals are going to get guns and use them. Criminals don't care what law is in affect. Isn't carrying a gun in Aurora illegal? But, the massacre still happened! So, Aurora's gun law got 12 people killed who were unable to protect themselves legally. Yeah, gun laws will help. It will help the criminal!

If the shooter in Colorado knew most people in the theater had weapons also, I dare say he would have brought his in.

You do have a right to bear arms upheld by the 2nd Amendment. But you don't have a right to bear a shoulder launched Stinger missile. Those are illegal for John Q. Public to possess. So could be assault rifles and mega-clips be declared illegal. And for similiar good reason. For that matter, "bearing of arms " need not necessiarly mean "gun ". Bearing of arms could be construed as a pocket knife.

Do you not know that you can buy a magazine fed hunting rifle that fire the same round as the rifles you want to band? Thousands of people compete in shooting matches with the same weapons you want to do away with and they harm no one,why punish them? Buy the way the AR15 is not an assault rifle as it is not select fire it is just a M16 look a like. Imported AK47 are not select fire. As far as magazine size goes it only takes a few seconds to change one so you're not buying much time at all.

So when are you going to have this thread pulled?

I'm for strict gun control for everyone but me.
In fact, I say take everyones weapons but mine.
I'd feel a lot safer then.

Those assualt rifles can be modified for full auto by even the novice gun fanatic. We all know that. Shooting competators can compete with a single shot. There need not be a rapid fire competition. I say legalize a maximum of a 3 round capability only.

I have no desire to delete this thread. Especially since I've already won every debate of reason.
