Don't now but they said he was ok Ovious after of 5 hours nd he is live. Why did they fly him to memphis? No trauma. Looked like to me he could have been transported to local hospital. Curious to see if they release him after a few hours in Memphis. Expensive out of pocket ride if you ask me.

Helicopter rides are a direct result of our sue happy society. Medical professionals are going to take zero chances. Too many folks are sent to Memphis that don't need to go, but, in the medical professionals mind, it beats the hell out of a million dollar lawsuit.

You lay people dont have a clue. Do your research. Anybody trapped and compressed by a ton of dirt for that long is a high risk to go into shock from organ failure. Your body shuts down from below where your pinned. The tissues die, and all that stagnant blood rushes back to your organs when they relase your body and can shut your organs down. And it can happen hours later, even if somebody feels fine. So being in a hospital where they can take care of that is extremely important. Hopefully he will be ok. But if he doesn't do well he's where he needs to be right now.

Good answer... He's very lucky fellow. Would be interesting to know how treatment was rendered prior to his being freed. It can be a tricky situation.

Mark Rainwater from Brookland. Working on a plumbing line to a house at the time of the cave in or dirt shifting.

So.....Did the guy lose a limb or two? Did he have blood clots rush to his lungs? Did his kidneys shut down? Did his penis shrink from the coldness of the dirt this time of year? I bet they checked his ass out of the hospital shortly after he got there. A lot of dollars wasted due to the fear of legal actions. Of course, I'm just a lay person.

If he was ok fine, all is good. But what if he went home instead of getting checked out, and his wife woke up to his dead body the next am? Sue or not, a human life is worth the time to make sure everything is ok. I have seen someone pinned under a car who initially was fine, but hours later was on a respirator fighting for his life. And all that dirt weighs more than a car. And compound that with hypothermia? It was a recipe for disaster.

And what if I get hit by a bus tomorrow. They should've loaded his azz up in an ambulance and hauled him to St. Bernards for observation. There was no reason to waste the money it took to fly him to Memphis.

What do you care, you dumb azz? why are you worried about budgeted money that you do not control, do not pay in to, and do not know anything about? Why are you so bitter? Are you a tea partier neanderthal?

The MED is the only level 1 trauma center in this region. As such, as previously stated, they are much more well equipped to help a patient who is St serious risk of shock. St. Bernard's is only a level 3 trauma center, I believe.
