This is just one more may the local authorities or our government takes away parental rights. When kids aren't disciplined (I don't mean abused, it gets harder and harder for teachers to teach in the classroom.

This is an outrageous and absurdly frivolous prosecution. Wisconsin has a reasonable force law allow parents to physically punish their kids, but Wisconsin DA's have a long history of pretending it doesn't exist. Concerned parents and others should join the CP Prosecutions list at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/cp_prosecutions

I have known this family for many years. They are the most loving, caring and giving people that you would every want to meet. Their children had more fun going and doing things with their parents than most children. Other children were always allowed to go with them. They went to amusement parks all over American and camping in most of the great parks. They had ballgames at there house for all the neighberhood children. In todays society you can no longer have a Christian home. Morals and values are considered obselete. This child was not beat. He was corrected by, I am sure, a loving hand.

Ummm...sorry guys but he is a foster parent. They sign a form which states he could loose his children if he spanked.

He also attended 3 months worth of classes which teaches how to discipline properly.

The Cops were also called out prior to his home regarding his "child discipline" they confiscated his paddle.

Any Christian man who risks having himself hauled off to jail because he is so into this spanking needs to question his own salvation. Ignoring a warning, signing his name and having it pounded into him that this is not appropriate yet he continued on.

This behavior is more than suspicious and CPS may have no choice but to ensure his children are protected by working with the DA to have him spend time in jail. How arrogant to indoctrinate children doing your bidding for you, protesting outside of courthouse. That is how it looks whether it is true or not.
Hopefully the Lords will will be accomplished in this situation, this family needs prayers. This is one hard headed man

I'm not religious so that's got nothing to do with it, but I think the guy ought to get a medal for punishing his kid, not a criminal case.

No such paper exists for a foster parent preventing them from spanking their own biological or adopted children. They can't spank foster children, that is correct. Mr Barnett did not spank a foster child. Get the facts straight please before you make your judgements. I too will pray for the family.

I was paddled as a kid and I think the pastor did the right thing. It's never fun at the time, but you sure remember what not to do next time!

The Pastor will be held accountable one day to His creator along with every parent and the way they raised their children. I think since the Lord said "spank" that even though DA Crystal Long chose to prosecute this case, the Lord will say "well done, thy good and faithful servant". I think he did the right thing. I got my butt whipped a time or two and have never been in jail, work a full time job and love my country and the people in it - even those who don't agree with me! Good luck to Mr. Barnett during his trial on July 16th.
