How did this case ever get to court? It doesn't sound like the boy complained or had any injuries at all, so who "reported" it to whom, and how did it get this far?

Hey - come on, what gives here?
Dick Cheney and GW Bush can use torture, trash the Bill of Rights, spy on Americans - in America {without a court order}, suspend habeas corpus, void the Geneva Convention, use rendition of people from/all over the world to secret prisons where they hold 'em without access to attorneys - unable to review the 'evidence' against 'em, and hold 'em for over half a decade and we don't prosecute THEM; but, a father who disciplines his son [OK, so maybe we don't like the idea of corporal punishment], that goes to trial. What a country - we're sure getting what we deserve!

Good for him for having the guts to paddle his son for lying. If more people did it correctly and lovingly, we might not have as goofy a society as we seem to have. I say spank when necessary!

One of the siblings told his teacher that he heard 2 "pops" and his brother start crying. The teacher told the counselor who called CPS. The Poynette School District's policy is to call authorities when a "utensil is used to spank".

I'm not arguing with you, in fact I pretty much agree with you, but I'm puzzled as to where you read that he paddled his son for lying? I wondered what the son had done to prompt the punishment and I couldn't find that. Did they alter the orginal article and leave that information out?

Yes you are correct that it isn't stated in the Tribune but I read this same story in the news from Madison, WI which is where I believe this is taking place. It says there that he was given a chance to tell the truth and did not. So he was paddled for lying.

In today's Portage Daily register a woman got 5 years probation for allowing her 6 year old daughter be sexually abused by a convicted sex offender. She was aware the abuse was going on and got 5 years probation. I wonder what the Pastor will get for 2 swats on the bottom? This county is messed up!

The pastor is a hero for doing this, the DA in this county needs to be recalled.
