These officers should be fired from thier jobs. Animals are just like humans and deserve the same respect that we get. What they did does was wrong and should be considered cruelty to an animal. Is this this future law enforcement officers of VA? This should not be allowed.

The Virginia Dept. of corrections will hire anyone, perverts, you name it. that dept. is tarnished beyond belief. this is only one of the stories that were published, you would be surprised of the other events taking place within the dept. why don't you report the stories involving the female Officers serving as mistresses to the male Officers and supervisors......it would blow your mind, but don't take my word for it investigate. check out the divorce rate among the female officers it is shocking........what a disgrace.

I challenge WTVR to investigate the Dept. of Corrections, I mean a full scale investigation. That Dept. is above the Law....seek and thou shall find.....I did.

Several years ago I purchased some deer hounds that turned out to be extremely shy. They would not let you catch them. While searching for these dogs after a hunt, I encountered another hunter who I related the problem to. He told me that a way to train these dogs to put on a glove and masterbate them, making them more receptive to being touche. Needless to say, these dogs remained shy, to their detriment.

let me get this right. correction officers were masturbating dogs?? It sounds like these people have a serious problem. And then they decide to video tape this???? Wow ! Very twisted. Hey was the public paying them to do this??? Another words. WERE THEY ON THE CLOCK. I would love to see the faces of these sick people so I would know to AVOID THEM

My question is, was whatever these CO's did in their training, part of their training? Was it something they were told to do as part of their training?
If not, get rid of them and charges should be filed.
If so, then cease and desist on the VA Corrections training procedures and let's see why this is part of the training.
Let's get a copy of the training manual.

I heard that a dedicated reporter was able to track down the victim and when asked for a comment, the canine said that at first, dealing with it had been "ruff" but now he has licked his wounds and moved on.

What's the matter? Wasn't there anything on the wire about Michael Jackson death or Jon and Kate's divorce?? Did Madonna just sleep in today??

Come on guys, how about covering NEWS so we do not upset fragile minds. I hear brave young men and women in uniform are risking life and limb for us over in some distant part of the world. Maybe you should check it out.

Realize, you should be more careful about your wording. Not everyone in DOC is a bad person. There are some CO’s that do their job the way they’re supposed to- and who take GREAT PRIDE in knowing they’re keeping criminals of the street. Who try and teach life lessons to prisoners who may not have otherwise learned anything on the “Streets.” My husband is one and his entire unit is another. Just because there’s a few bad apples don’t discard all of them. I do agree with you, there is some horrible things that happen behind DOC walls, but it’s fair and few between. I also agree that every prison should be invesigated and looked at under a mircoscope, including my husbands unit. But please refrain from pointing fingers at all CO’s- I can’t speak for all but I can speak for one, and he wouldn’t trade his job for all the money in the world.

I don't care if the technique works or not -- there is no way I'm engaging in a sexual act with an animal. That is sick. If you even consider doing something like that you need to have some serious professional health. It is not normal. If you willingly touch an animal inappropriately -- even as a joke -- you have NO business being in a job that puts you around animals. PERIOD. They should be fired immediately. If they are sick enough to do this and dumb enough to videotape it -- maybe they belong behind bars themselves. Society needs to be protected from idiotic perverts.

This is horrible! Animals are people too! Why would someone do this? I guess they don't understand how an animal feels about that

The comment made in the article that states "Dr. Leopold says, "I definitely am concerned about what would be the next step and what they could potentially do to an animal in the future."

I, too, am concerned! Here's another question to think about. What could they or have they done already to other animals and inmates and innocent children. I am both a dog owner and a mother and can not believe that this even happened. What is this world conming to???? Animal cruelty???? What would it be if it was a child??? No difference here people.

State budget concerns??? Well, there's 5 jobs right there on top of the hundreds that have already occurred. Way to go Virginia......did you ever think to run a background investigation on these folks?

I hope a man takes them in to a back room.....puts a glove on.....and does the same sick action while videotaping it. Then we can put the video on WTVR and laugh at them!

Unbelievable!

Don't fire them.
Use them for crowd and violence control within the mens shower time,I'm sure the inmates would greatly appreciate a good reach around once-n-awhile.
If they are fired they will get lost in the system and end up working as dog catchers or something. At least this way they can be monitored.
BTW POOR puppies.

There is NO explanation for this act....other than SICK SICK SICK. These 5 officers should be treated worse than the prisoners they are supposed to be guarding. They need to be prosecuted and NEVER work for taxpayers money again or have any involvement with animals of any kind and especially children. How do we know they would'nt try it with children also??
