We were all affected last night when we pulled in and saw and smelled the smoke.
But we are the Powhatan Band Family. And we will stick together through this unfortunate event.

This is an unfortunate event that will never be forgotten, however, the PHS band has proven over and over again that they are STRONG, COMMITTED, and have the GRIT and true DEDICATION to be the best. This will only make you stronger. Hold your heads high Grand Champs! You are awesome!

I'm so sorry this had to happen. When the trailer pulled into the parking lot, every single face was the same...horror. We love the band, which is why we do everything we can to help at every show. And when we realized that your dreams were going up in smoke, our hearts broke with yours. We are all here and we all love you. We WILL get throw this. We WILL fix this. And ya'll WILL be the champions that you already are. The instruments, uniforms, equipment...NONE of that makes a good band member. You all are gifted without them. And you are CHAMPIONS no matter what. We love you.

You never think this will happen to you. until it does.
All that we've worked so hard for went up in flames last night.
Thankfully we could save some things and thankfully it wasn't a bus with kids on it.
We will stay strong and get through this. We are a family and nothing can stop us.

Not only did they compete in the competition, they won the overall best marching band award! Alot of stuff was damaged in the moving van sized trailer. Congratulations for the big win and condolences for the loss of your equipment and brand new uniforms...horrible.

I've seen a few pictures of the truck, instruments, uniforms, etc. They're all so heartbreaking :( Stay strong and keep your heads up, band. I'm sure if all 120+ of us (and that's just the kids!) work hard to recover from this, we will do some amazing things pretty soon.

I was on the first bus coming back from VA beach and we all could smell the fire. When Mr. Gordon came on to our bus and said the semi/trailer was on fire, i thought he was joking. Then I realized what he said was true. Everyone was worried on our bus. I stayed after till 3:40am to help with everything. This experience can only make us stronger and more will to do what we do to prove that we are indeed the GRAND CHAMPIONS!

It was quite a shock to learn at 1am that the new drums we had performed with a few hours before were fueling a fire. I was at the High School till amost 3am helping sort out the stuff and take inventory, and the fire make a good amount of damage. Hard plastic drum cases melted to the cover melted to the drum with the heads burned off, solid metal gongs cracked and melted from the heat, wind instruments recieving smoke, water, and fire damage. It's really sad, but i'm mostly glad that the man driving the truck, Mr. Sheperd, wasn't hurt and that the fire didn't occur on the highway. But we are a band family, 128 kids and numerous adults, and we will get through this. We've gone through bad stuff before, and we can get through this. We're so hot our instruments catch fire!

My two granddaughters marched and performed proudly on Saturday along with all the wonderful Powhatan kids who have worked so hard. And Grand Champions they were--splendid in new uniforms and with those awesome new drums. And Grand Champions they will remain! All of us who care about PHS Marching Band and about good kids who stay out of trouble and have a group like this to work for MUST HELP THEM REBUILD THEIR LOST EQUIPMENT. Personally, I donated to the original campaign and I will match that donation and double it if necessary to get these kids on the road to recovery. They will come out winners yet again. Let's all help.

We are so sorry to hear of your loss. What a shock to see this horrible fire on the local news. Glad no one was inured. Your instruments and uniforms can be replaced, and from the outpouring of kindness and love that the County has for PHS Band we know it won't be long until you have everything you need. You all are in our thoughts and prayers. PHS Band is always awesome. Mr. Gordon is the best! Congratulations on your award! Again, so sorry for such a huge loss to the band. Keep strong and have faith all will work out well!

When my mother told me about the event my heart dropped. I would always look foward to seeing you guys in competitions and I always cheered you on in competitions. I plan to send a donation if possible and possibly donate one of my instruments. Hang in there and Good luck this season.

Please advertise where donations can be made and to whom on your band website. THere are many ex-band parents out there from other schools who feel your loss. We know what it takes to run a band. I am sure there will be many who want to donate. Keep that music in your hearts!
