Time for a Delaware Countywide Fire Department which would equate to fewer fire chiefs and potentially more on the truk personnel to serve the population. Let the Cities opt out if they want to , but it is time to tear down the walls between Townships , the County and the Cities.

Cushman in CA, you post would require more than the allowed 4000 characters to correct all the issues in your statement. Maybe if my punctuation was as poor as yours, I could fit in some more characters. First, only one firefighter has retired from Liberty Township. Second, the union went back to the table early with the township to make sure that pay and benefits were in-line with the private sector. The township did not come to the union and request this. Third, property taxes have gone down for everyone in the township due to the departments excellent fiscal management therefore preventing a need for a new levy in the past 10 years. Fourth, a new levy will bring their income up to the necessary level needed to fund the fire department at its current level for the next three years. Fifth, there is more accountability now than ever before with the work of a conservative fiscal officer (who also supports a new levy). Sixth, when a new building is built in the township, everyone else's taxes go down. In Ohio, the millage income is set and will remain the same throughout the levy. Seventh, "upcoming salary negotiations"? There will be no such thing! The union just signed a new contract last year, there will be no negotiations for the next 3+ years. There contract is public record if you really are that interested in what they have, and don't have compared to others.

In terms of the gas station clerk quote, I am not even going to address that. Everyone's life is at risk every day. I just pray that when mine is, I am surrounded by excellent firefighters and paramedics like the ones that protect Liberty Township!

Again...know your facts before you run your fingers across the key board!

Liberty Township firefighters and EMS personnel could get an immediate 2% pay increase if they would de-unionize. Such an action would also have the added benefit of creating goodwill with the voters and Township Officials. It would also be an interesting precedent which would place Liberty Township firefighters/EMS in the forefront with the national media. So give it a try gentlemen and ladies if you find it is not working out vote to unionize again.

That 2% pay increase would come from where? The tax payers that are already crying foul. How would that resolve any ones problems? And furthermore where do you come up with such a figure as 2%? And then what protections would they have against the twp. trying to raise the cost if health insurance on them even more than they already pay? As i recall they inacted the same health care and pension provisions from the god awful senate bill 5. So what other motive do you have for wanting them to deunionize? Goodwill with the township..........i thought both sides had to agree to a contract for it to be legal......AGREE .....not forced by either side.

Simply put, if you do have to pay union dues which typically run around 2% of your salary that constitutes a pay increase as there is more money left in your pocket. And it does not cost the taxpayers anything.Only problem is it takes guts to do the right thing.

They do not have to pay those dues in this particular case. No one is forced in to that union as with other unions......they arent the BIG BAD UNION you and the rest of the Tea Party members would like to make them out to be. 2% is double what they pay now. And again what is your motive for having them deunionize? Surely it cant be based solely on the fact that you would put money back in their pocket.....thats definately not the republican way. If the township would "do the right thing" then they wouldnt need a contract

Melanie is NOTHING more than a puppet for the Reich wing tea bagging conservative chicken littles of the world. She lives in a $750,000 Wedgwood home, doesn't work, and pays almost $14,000 dollars in taxes. ONLY about $1,100 of that goes to the TOWNSHIP! SO, her biggest complaint is that roughly 12.7% of her tax dollars are breaking the backs of rich folks! People move to Powell, Lewis Center, Sunbury, and Worthington for the schools, amenities, and so on. It is the business model of MOST Fire Departments to do WHAT the public wants. They KNOW that they are at the mercy of the voters, there is NO sense of ENTITLEMENT with these folks. They are public servants. They serve their fellow man, to the extreme. Not some snot nosed kid that acts like an idiot at the drive through at taco-bell. They are educated, some with masters and Phd's! Their services could make them a LOT more money in the private sector, the one that Kasich and his idiots (Melanie) have made the victim and the public sector employees are the villains! WE are fighting over scraps thanks to the smoke and mirrors the tea party and politicians like JORDAN, BRENNER, LENEGHAN, and Kasich have distracted us while they RUN to the bank with our tax payer dollars. IF the public fails the levy, the fire department will adjust. If they pass the levy the level of service will remain and/or improve. Easy as that! Melanie will NOT be putting on fire gear, jumping on the truck, and coming to your family in their time of need! A firefighter/Paramedic who has devoted his/her life to serving the welfare of others. If the pensions and health care are SO GREAT, then come apply! FACT; not one firefighter lives in Melanie's sub-division! they are NOT overpaid, unions are NOT the devil. They are the ONLY thing that stands between organized greed, that is organized labor. Unions made this country great. They gave YOU a 40 hr work week, the weekend, pension, health care, child labor laws, etc. EMBRACE the good in everything! I can assure you that the INCREASE in insurance premiums will be MORE than the proposed fire levy! Also, to learn more about Melanie Leneghan...read Tom Stnaley's book. "The millionaire next door" great book! You'll see why she hates the Government, BIG or small.

I hope you all remember the next time a smoke alarm goes off in your neighborhood and four firetrucks and two ambulances along with two chief car shows up just so they can boost their "run" numbers so they can fleece more tax money out of the public with inflated numbers that it was Melanie who stood up for you and your tax dollars!

STOP THE GAMES with inflating numbers so you can prove you need more help. It is not working.

This has nothing to do with being against firemen or public sector employees. It has to do with being a caretaker of the public's tax money and making sure it is spent wisely and honestly.

They dont inflate their numbers such as you are accusing. Each run in Delaware county gets one run number per dept......that means even when all four fire trucks from liberty twp show up there is only ONE RUN NUMBER. How is that inflating the numbers? Now go stick your head back in the sand so you cant see anything else for how it REALLY IS! And as for four fire trucks two ambulances and two cheifs showing up you are just further proving your ignorance.....number one, they dont have the staffing for that...number two, on a residential fire alarm typically depts send one engine and one ladder......how much more FALSE INFORMATION would you like to spew?

It is not surprising that our new township trustee, who did not attend any meetings after announcing her candidacy, nor even after being elected, is clueless.

In just 4 short months, she has become an expert in Fire Dept. finances, manpower charts and the union contract. NOT!

There may be some things the Fire Dept. needs to look at, as far as potentially saving money. eliminating EMS is not really an option, unless you are Melanie. The county will pick up EMS, but what is the additional wait time cost? How do you determine that when your spouse is on the floor having a heart attack? Are the savings worth it if the increased response time is too slow and someone expires? What if it is you?

Melanie seems more interested in media coverage than anything else. I doubt it is the best interests of Liberty residents she has in mind.
It is all about her.

The ole boy's club has been invaded. We could have our elected GOP like our governor calling them idiots like he has the cops who serve us. Instead we have a trustee asking for and expecting people to not have an open checkbook.
Keep pushing for accountability Melanie. Someone is really uncomfortable.

There is a big difference between expecting accountability and running off at the mouth. I think everyone expects open and transparent government.
It still takes a certain amount of money to run government. Melanie does not even understand cash flow.

The money that Melanie thinks can be cut from the budget is money that covers the fiscal year budget from the tax collection receipts. The township's tax receipts do not come in weekly, or even monthly. The money she thinks is extra is money required to pay the bills until the taxes are dispersed from the County.

Fire/EMS Department pensions and benefits are not sustainable. Time to reign them in and pay public employees like the private citizens who pay the majority of taxes. If you keep adding to the well with more levy money the trustees will give it away in the negotiations process rather than saying no. It is easy to say yes and capitulate to unions demands, thus avoiding confrontation. Time for Sybert and company to put on their straps and spanx and get in the real game.

Bet Liberty Township counts runs in support of other fire departments, e.g Dublin, Concord, Delaware, Orange. Take those run numbers away and let's see the facts. Let's start charging other fire departments .

Take away run numbers that assist another community on an emergency?...what part of mutual aid dont you understand? Its called helping each other out. And if im not mistaken wasnt that part of melanies plan to reduce staffing? She wants to use mutual aid as part of her reduction plan. So, by your statement above, are you okay with the other depts charging liberty for mutual aid when they come to help you? Probably not. Not sure why you have a hard time understanding how the run numbers work but when ANY DEPT takes a run....mutual aid or local, it generates a run number.....happens this way all over the state of ohio....perhaps you should take your complaint up with state fire marshals office....they are the ones who REQUIRE the run number reporting system.

Fire department administrators provide their own numbers to try and insert data that they are over stretched and over worked and under man powered. That is why if my neighbor breaks gas they send four trucks, an ambulance and and a couple small SUV's.

Would there be any savings from a 12 on 12 off duty schedule?? It would also have the benefit of not making it appear that we are paying for them to sleep and perhaps they could do their shopping before the came to work.

The Repudiation of Curtis Sybert "The Bagman" will happen in the next election. What doesn't he get about no new taxes. Sybert it is pretty simple, charge a basic property tax amount, then charge for individual runs to cover the shortfall. In other words users pay a little bit of a premium. The taxpayers are tired of non resident users and renters/ boomer rang comn back to momma and dadda kids getting a free ride.

Going shopping today? Then don't be surprised if you splash out on items that are that little bit different from your usual purchases. For instance, if you set off for the supermarket you might end up buying lots of exotic ingredients so you can experiment with them. This is unlikely to get out of hand unless you're feeling bored or fed up, in which case you'll want to spend your way out of your current mood.
