Ider Volunteer Fire Department

Ider Volunteer Fire Department was started by citizens of Ider ,not the Town of Ider.They scraped together what they could and did the best they could for years.Look what we have now!The town of Ider does not provide the community with a fire department,the volunteer fire department
provides Ider with a fire department for the community.The town provides the Fire Department with water,lights and propane for heating,for which i`m sure the department appreciates,but the Fire Dept. does not run off money from the town.
Like all volunteer fire dept.s they receive money from the Dekalb County Fire association to purchase trucks,equipment and gear or to make truck payments.Truck payments come first,not enough money for other things and they wait.For everything that they purchase or want to purchase they have to go before the city council for approval.The Town of Ider owns the fire dept. just as they own the sr.building,library and park.
The only time they are ever told their appreciated
is from the Fire Chief,he says it after every meeting or every fire.Gotta love that Chief!

The fire dept. does not send bills for fire calls!

I for one think you all do an amazing job in the Ider VOLUNTEER Fire Department. My house has never been on fire for me to call, but I have no doubt that if I did need them, they would be here.

I will tell you that the Town council has all intentions of destroying the fire department.I think they want the money the fire dept. has,that money is protected and can only be used for the fire dept.

Bo Peep, you are out of line with your statement. Even the fire department members reconize your post as giving out false information against the town council and your post is only to start gossip. Most older citizens in the community have been members of the Rescue Squad or Fire Department and they know what power the Town Council has over the fire department, so travel on. We don't believe you. The fire department & firemen are appreciated in our community. Apology accepted.

Ider Rescue Squad is not owned by the Town of Ider, if you knew as much as you claim you would know that. They do not have to go before city council for anything. In case you didn`t know it the Town and Community have all but deserted the Rescue Squad. I aint going anywhere either.

Call Town Hall and ask how it is. The Town does in fact own the Fire Dept, they do in fact have to go before the town council for approval for purchases. They own it all but have not purchased any of it. What`s your beef with the truth?

Our Fire Chief is an honest & dedicated person.
He attends all the council meeting that he can and he only ask for what his dept needs. His interest is only in doing what is right for the fire dept & it's members. The dept is own by the Town and serves as a check on the fiances of the dept.*What if a ANOTHER chief stepped in and had control over the money and didn't really care about how & where the DEPT'S money was spent. Did you folks ever think about that. The community appreciates the Chief & his members. Leave the fire department out of your personal fight against townhall. I agree with the last post, call town hall & ask questions that is if you really want to know the truth.

You got that right. No Fire Chief-No Firefighters
watch people complain when that ISO rating affects their homeowners insurance. If the Town was run like the Chief runs the Fire Department it would be very nice indeed.

How you figure that? The playground is being run by bullies not the Mayor. You can`t run something if you don`t make the rules,
but the times they are a changing. So far that Dollar Store hasn`t went out of bussiness- so what was that about? Just another cheap shot- that`s all, so is that all you "the person that knows" knows?

My hope that the Ider Fire, unlike the police dept. if the council starts on the Fire Dept. They all walk off and let the B.Q. man have it. They have started on the Police Dept. They have maybe one that is not a badge toter. Think about it and look and see.
The council will start on the Fire Dept. But not the park dept. that where B.Q. man run that and is appletree drinking buddy and is paid well by the town, while he run his business.
