Taylor will be honored today for his service to our county and his athletic accomplishments. Taylor is a former major league pitcher who pitched for the Milwaukee Braves in 1957, and in that 1957 year the Braves won the World Series. Taylor's most important accomplishments were not on the baseball diamond though. His most important accomplishments were raising great children that will make this world a better place. Along with Mrs. Betty, Taylor has guided his children to be giving, kind and humble people who also are known to give back to their communites. Taylor has mentored hundreds of young men through his knowledge of baseball. Taylor is still teaching pitching along with life lessons to scores of teenage boys. Thanks Taylor for what you have taught my son and his friends ahout baseball and how to act as young men.

You would have benefited greatly if you had had someone like Taylor to teach you a little respect. Apparently you have very little class.

I played ball at Wallace Park for Taylor Phillips and went to school with his son John. Good for him!

Heard his son was still aging in the minors. Not sure if that is accurate or not.
Sorry, I meant he was playing in the minors...
John hurt his shoulder several years ago and gave up baseball. He is married has has a young son, around two I think. He owns a security company that works athletic events and concerts. He is still as sociable as ever. He is a chip off the old block.

Hi Realistic Dad....I'm assuming Mr. Phillips still resides in DC, right? I would love to find out more about this career, etc.

There was a great story on the front page of the Sentinel last week. A little personal information for you....Taylor is a DC native, graduated from Douglas County then signed with the Milwaukee Braves out of high school. He also played with the Cubs, White Sox and Phillies. He has continued to teach pitching fundamentals to any kid that wants to learn to pitch. Taylor is currently working with the DCHS pitchers as a volunteer coach. Taylor refuses to allow anyone to pay him for these lessons. Taylors biggest contribution to all the hundreds of young men he has worked with is not the pitching information he shares but the life lessons he includes in his words of wisdom. He has never turned his back on anyone and I feel blessed to call him my friend.

Taylor says his greatest memory is throwing the last pitch at Ponce de Leon park, home of the Crackers.

I think "realistic dad" speaks with Mr. Phillips regularly, I'll let him know about your post.
