If you wait for them to fire first, yo will be killed or injured very bad.
I have been shot in the line of duty. The drunk driver shot me first. In just 4 seconds 8 rounds had been fired, I went to grady and the suspect wad dead.
Lt. Dan, you just do not understand what you speak.
I understand that a man was killed in his own home by the government. I understand that he was not armed with a deadly weapon as the government was. I understand that he did not seek this confrontation out with the government. I understand that he didn't fire first or fire at all.
What do you understand?

What I find odd is how screwed up our priorities are. In the war zone, like afganistan, the rules of engagement dictate that you can't fire until fired upon.
Here, the cops shoot first and ask questions later.
Seems a little backwards to me.
Who said the ROE in afghanistan were right. Ask those who have been?

So the police should have to wait to get shot at first? This isn't the old west where people stand off and go heels moron. Make an overt act like that and you'll probably get shot.

I don't think the police should get a free pass for killing an innocent man in his own home. I don't think there is anything "special" about law enforcement officers; therefore they should be held to the same standard as ordinary citizens. They should not be above the law.

They aren't. The same law applies to citizens. You don't have to wait for someone to shoot at you before you can defend yourself. What sense would that make?

Ahh. It's always an "innocent person" that the cops kill. They are never a druggie or bad person, according to their loved ones. Too bad their areest records say otherwise. He should have dropped what he had in hus hands, put his hands up and followed officers commands. Officers don't kill for fun. It's a tough thing for them to go through. The suspect made hus chiice, fircing the officers to do this.

I especially like how people are on here saying he didn't do drugs but you can clearly see he had been arrested on drug charges. lol

Pray for our police and all they have to endure and face everyday. They did what they had to do.

Since you are an expert, why don't you tell me what this man did to deserve being shot to death in his own home?

I wasn't there and you would not believe how the media twist things, leaves thing out and reports false facts when they can't get more information. And it is always in the suspects favor. News media is anti law enforcement.

But from what has been said, it sounds like he had a weapon in his hand and clearly didn't drop it when told to. It could have been a gun. The cops didn't know. I gurantee you, if he had dropped it, gun or not, he'd still be alive.

Since you have admitted be ignorant, let me educated you a little.

There was no gun or other weapon. The man was in his own home. No drugs were found and no arrest was made. The man, Danny Hammett, was 60 years old and walked with a limp. He had been at work all day.

We need to stop senselessly worshiping the police. A man's life was taken without justification, and those that did so MUST be held accountable.

If you have other facts or disagree, I'd love to hear it.

I was listening to the scanner when this happend. I usually listen to it in the latter part of my work day via an app on my phone. The exact words, when this came across the radio: "Shots fired Paulding, we're being fired upon!" You could hear pops of the guns over the radio. They then stopped all radio traffic, unless relevent to the situation.

I'm not biased in this. I support law enforcement to the full, but I've been raised to look at every angle of a situation.

Somebodies facts aren't straight. I don't know the facts of the story. I just know what I heard on the scanner, and then saw on the news.

The general public likes to believe that men and women who work in law enforcement are somehow special. We like to idolize these individuals and put them on a pedestal because it makes us feel safer to think someone who is better than we are is protecting us.

However, men and women in law enforcement are not special. They are human beings just like the rest of us. They lie and cheat just like normal people.

It's natural to want to give them credit because we "think" that police have a dangerous job, but they don't. In fact, police are not even in the top 10 most dangerous jobs.

I hope this family gets justice for the senseless killing of a family member, but I doubt they will.

Well I feel bad about Danny being killed. I feel even worse that it seems his "wife" and stepson may have brought this all on him.
