It is just a gym you pick up a box of rocks a few times and keep out of the golden corral pig pen and in few months you look better

Amazing how most of these posts have just turned into another vessel for you covert racist to spew your ignoramous stereotypes and whine about the continuing diversity of DC. Try actually engaging in conversation with one of the "ghetto chicks" at the counter instead of making ASSumptions and you might be surprised to see that some of "them" can form a complete sentence. If you don't like it, stay home or stay at Gold's. I'm not going to stop coming to workout just because you dont feel comfortable running on the treadmill next to me. When I go to the gym, I have better things to do than take a census because I'm to busy in my own world blaring my Ipod and thinking about what muscles I want to work. Save your racist views for your neighborhood tea party and accept the gym for what it is. A place to work out and improve self, not a whites only social club. Thank you and enjoy the rest of your day!

Hope you guys enjoy trying to fit into the white world.

They call your types "Uncle Toms", right?

I don't blame you guys wanting to be like the white Americans. It is nice, even with pest.

Black Question, what are you talking about?
What does "even with pest." mean?
This isn't a white world, it is reality. "Uncle Toms" is an idea that was popular in the late 60s and early 70s to describe black people who went along with everything that the white world said. It is an antiquated term these days. The best thing for you black people to do is to forgive, forget, and take advantage of the tremendous opportunities that you now have at your command. Do your best. Learn all you can. Accept the system that confronts you and work to change it if you need it to change, and in the ways you need it to change.
Forget white America as a concept and embrace life as a gift that you have been given. Make the most of it.

A lot of it has to do with YOUR attitude going in to the situation. If you expect a negative experience you are more likely to get it. Try a positive attitude and you might be pleasantly surprised.

I was a member at Gold's for five years, now am a member at LA Fitness.

Gold's has been hurting since Mr. Johnson used the entire Gold's mailing list for his anti-SPLOST campaign a couple years ago. Immediately after that, the City cancelled all their police memberships at Gold's (as did I), now they're at LA Fitness.

I was disappointed in the lack of updates at Gold's, the class music was the exact same after 3-4 years. They also went from some tennis events being free for members to everyone being charged whether you were a member or not. No thanks.

I like LA Fitness so far. The machines are not as cramped, the locker facilities are MUCH nicer, and they have a functional lap pool. Sure, you have to schedule swim workouts around the water aerobics, but they're three days a week at 6, no big deal.

Aside from my initial consultation, I have had no need to interact with the staff. Exercise machines are pretty self-explanatory.

Quick update on LA Fitness. They have replaced their kids care staff. The girls are attentive and friendly. My children are cool with visiting again. Only challenge now is when they are understaffed and there are a bazillion kids to only a couple childcare professionals. But, as a parent, its my call to look in and decide to come back another time becuase the situation looks a little out of control. I'll gladly take that responsibility and appreciate LA Fitness putting good people in the room.

Good news that they are listening and trying to make it a better experience. I would never go back to Golds after they used my membership to kill the SPLOST and lied to us about the pool closing when we were renewing our membership.

If I may ask, how much are they asking for an LA Fitness membership - single member rate?

I have been a member at golds for 8 years now and I have always taken the classes. I do not remember any time where they used the same music that long. They have always updated their music 3 to 4 times a year. However, now that I am thinking about it. There was one time when they switched aerobic programs they did go 6 months I think. They said it was because of the launch times of the new program coming out.

Like SavingDouglasville, I do have issues with some of the things they did with the change over. They should have told us about the pool and the removal of child care at Hospital Drive. At first I was really upset by it but, now I am over it. I will be staying at Gold's. The staff is great and always friendly.

Right wing nut jobs at Gold's?? What? I have worked out here for 13 years and have no idea of anyone's political persuasion at the gym...ah but here is a novel thought...I am working out not jaw yacking sitting my fat ass on a machine someonewhere taking up space.

"no it alls" has got to be the funniest phrase yet! What do you no? Certainly not how to spell!:)

Hell yes kill the SPLOST...otherwise I am paying for myself and other's who sit on their lazy asses and receive a check to get YET ANOTHER benefit I WORK VERY HARD EVERYDAY OF MY LIFE to get. Down with freeloaders!

I do agree about the pool though, and think that competition is always a healthy thing.

On another note...is it just me or do the Hospital Drive and Chapel Hill locations seem to be more segregated now?

More blacks at Hospital and all the whites at Chapel Hill?

Gerald, my LA Fitness rate is $30/month.

Also, what sort of clientele do you think Gold's is bringing in with their reduced rate memberships? A friend of mine has had her car burglarized in the parking lot, and I've heard of several more.

There have been numerous burglaries in both Gold's gym lots here as well as a notorious one up in Kennesaw or Marietta.
The problem is that burglars know that people who go in to exercise leave their wallets in their cars. Unfortunately, the health clubs don't give a crap about you or your wallet. They post little signs telling you that they aren't responsible if someone breaks into your car on their lot.
Very responsible of them. It happens several times a month whether it makes the papers or not.
I know, because I was on the Grand Jury in Douglas County for 6 months and I saw how often this happens.

No, Hoobadee, I'm not a big boy. I'm just citing my sources. There are a lot of mentions in here of things and events that are stated as facts. I am just saying that I have first hand knowledge of what I am talking about. Do you?

It is known information that people have had their cars broken into. So, if people are dumb enough to leave their wallets and purses in their cars, that is their resposiblity. Golds's has locker and people can go purchase a $2 lock to secure their property while working out. Gold's isn't the only place this has happened. Kohl's has been having break ins too. So it is only a matter of time before LA Fitness has break ins.

The car burglaries are happening all up and down Chapel Hill Road; not just at Gold's.
