Not all Moms are that stupid, naive, and blind. As the mom of a teenager myself I have taught and instilled in my children that they are accountable for their actions. If they do something stupid, then the blame and punishment falls on them too. As the parent, I would feel that, I, too, share in the responsibility of what dumb things my child does as ultimately it is up to me as an adult to know what he/ she is doingand what kind of crowd he/she is hanging with. People, in general, are so quick to blame everyone else for their mistakes and parents teach their kids to do the same. Everyone screws up in their lives, but it is what you do with those screw ups that determines the quality of a person that you are. |

I agree but the majority of moms you see on the news when their children get caught up in their this is their first excuse. I just want to know when some of them will say...yeah my kid is the one your kid shouldn't hang around! I understand peer pressure, but this society is teaching everyone not to take responsibility for their own actions. |

The City of Douglasville is the owner of the property. They will not sue the parents because these firebugs saved the City a lot of money and a headache (fighting preservationists) by burning down the mill. I imagine that there was a let-it-burn order to the FD and there some "high-fives" afterward. |

These kids actions could have put peoples lives at danger. Especially the firefighters. It cost the county money for the use of the fire equipment and emergency equipment.
I know many of you loved that old building but I thought it was an eyesore that was just a breeding ground for crime and rodents to live. It was a terrible eyesore and needed to be torn down as it was in terrible condition. Nobody could ever use it and try to restore it as it was a historic site. I guess in 10 more years it would have looked like the old Civil War factory down in Sweet Water Creek Park. At least now something useful can be done with the property and whatever it is will look better than that old dilapidated structure. |

They got 60-120 days in jail and:
"After they are released, Bond, Carringer and Hand must perform 100 hours of community service, submit to drug and psychological evaluations, attend counseling sessions and have no contact with each other. They will be on probation for seven years after their release." Not nearly a severe enough sentence for what they did. Basically they can just forget that anything happened to them within a year..except for going to probation meetings. I'd have rather seen 1-4 years in jail and 10,000 hours of community service. Something that would insure they remember this for quite awhile. |

I totally agree. Its not the point of the building or the money that was saved, it was the reckless and thoughtless actions of these kids. The Douglas County government seems to be able to shit money to "beautify" anything around that mall...but thats it. The fact is these little shits committed a felony and should be punished. And I personally also feel that some type of accountability should be placed on the parents of minor children who commits such crimes. Do parents even talk to their kids anymore? Do they pay attention to what type of people they are hanging around and what they are really doing? Are they raising their kids to recognize right from wrong? Cause it damn sure doesnt seem like it. Just like the story of the disabled child who took a knife to school cause he was being bullied. The mother tried to justify it and blame the school. Taking any weapon to school is not okay...no matter what the circumstance is. But lets continue blaming everyone and everything else. |

As many of you know...the whole situation makes me very sad. I mourn for poor decision making in the past and for our lost history.
Most certainly the sentences were too low. I love the idea of having the young men to help clean the site, but I'm thinking that would never happen. |

Wouldn't that be classified as cruel and unusual punishment in our modern forgive and feel good days? |
