We saw a coyote in our subdivision at about 10:30 PM a month ago. Two weeks ago one entered my backyard from the woods at about 11:00 AM. I can hear them behind my house. There must be a pack or a bunch of pups in the woods behind the fire station and Kroger area at Chapel Hill Rd and Central Church. I'm concerned when I walk my two small dogs.

Holy Crap! Coyotes????

I live down Bomar around Chapel Hill. There are a lot of woods around here. Our dog sometimes goes off the deep end for what we think was no reason at all in the middle of the night. We thought it might be because of a stray dog/cat or one of the neighbors coming home late. I never imagined it could be a friggin' Coyote!

This thread is very enlightening!

Cool!

someone said they saw a cougar in chapel valley subdivison the other day. there have been numerous cat and dog attacks recently in the neighborhood. most are from the coyotes. i doubt very seriously there is a cougar loose. although i wouldnt rule it out that one could have been kept as a pet and it got out or was released. remember the alligator in the lake on annawakee rd a few years back?

There are Bob cats just across the river in Fulton Co. I wouldn't be suprised if we didn't have them in DC.

Will animal control set traps in Douglas County?
I live not far from there, and I saw 2 coyotes on the side of Oak Hill Rd. about 2 weeks ago. I also saw a black one running along our fence line one night. The dogs went nuts when they saw it. I also wonder if this is why they are barking at 3am? Well there could also be deer back there as well, because there is a lot of woods behind us.
I do believe that animal control will set up traps, if you call them up.

You need to contact DNR...coyotes are typically difficult to trap with standard traps used for dogs. I live in a remote town in Coweta county and we see them all the time. Animal control said that they are usually not human aggressive unless they are rabid or coyote-dog mixes. Call DNR they handle wildlife....like the gator that was on Anneewakee Rd a few years back.BTW..they will go after your pet though.

I saw that one too. He looked very well fed! I also saw a fairly large one on Hwy 78 in Villa Rica near Mirror Lake a week ago.

Are you folks sure these are cayotees, or are they starving foxes? I thought I had a cayotee living in the brush nearby who was comming up and eating the bread I was tossing out for the birds. He was all scruffy looking and had his tail between his legs. Real sad looking critter. I started throwing out table scraps, which disappeared overnight, and all of a sudden he started looking better. turned out he was a fox, not a cayotee. He lived off my table scraps for over a year and then a woman up the road started buying chicken legs for him and he and his whole family of foxes started hanging out at her place.

I live in Willows North and I know of at least 3 feral cats that have been killed during the early morning hours (3am - 5am ). About 30 minutes ago I took the trash out and saw a dog in the neighbors yard. I'm not sure if it was a coyote. Even though a neighbor has seen coyotes coming in the neighborhood via the power lines. I think it was a pitt bull because I have seen two running loose in our neighborhood. I called animal control and the recording gave me an emergency number. I called that number and that recording said call 911. Which I called. Just saw a deputy patrol thru with their search lights. According to the sherrif's dept. they will attempt to make contact with Animal Control only if the animal has bitten someone!!!! I was also advised to call animal control during business hours. I am wondering how they will approach this during non buiness hours!

A pitbull looks nothing like a coyote.

If you put your complaint on Douglasville Patch it will be read immediately by animal control, even after business hours.

I don't think Animal Control will deal with wild animals.

And yes, we have coyotes in Douglas County. They are very adaptable animals and they can thrive in urban and suburban areas.

There are a lot of wild snakes in Douglasville hanging around city hall. Not sure if they are poisonous or just common worm and rat snakes.
