I understand that a new jail is on the ballott Tuesday. Does someone really think we need a new jail? How about our local government take a pay cut to pay for the new jail instead of pawning it off on the taxpayers.

Every government employee. The popolus as a whole has taken a cut either through pay cuts or job losses lately, but the government employees just keep getting paid with our increased taxes. ALL of them should take a cut.

That's all any government employee knows how to do is waste tax payer $'s. If they don't find a way to waste them then they can't ask for an increased budget next year. How about they find the money in the budget to cover their needs...or take a cut to do it.

I'm tired of every level of Gov't always asking for more money. If your expenses exceed your income then you have to cut expenses. Could I go ask the Gov't to pay some of my bills?

Wow, there are some ignorant people in here today.
If you ever have the misfortune to land one of these government jobs you will going home every day wondering why your paycheck sucks. A lot of people leave government to enter the private sector because of the lousy pay.

I'm not saying that they all have lousy pay, but I remember way back when working for a university for several years. I can make more money in 2 weeks than I made in a whole year back then.

But, you can resent government workers all you want. Go ahead. I don't think they care. They will get around to reading your resentment notes in 6 to 8 weeks maybe. Go stand in that line over there around the corner to talk to one of them.

Yes,yes, yes we need a new jail.look at all this growth we have experienced these last few years. We have got to be able to house criminal.in order to keep us safe here.Look at whats happening in Fla.all those sex preditors on the loose killing kids.Who knows if they could have housed those preditors, more kids would till be alive.Lets keep Douglasville and Douglas county safe.We canot risk the lives of our families and our own.We need plenty of room to put criminals in their proper place, and keep them off these streets.

I don't know of any agency which has not taken a hit due to the economy. Training, Overtime, furlows What ever they have all felt the impact of things. I don't like paying more taxes as well, but crime does go up when the economy goes down. Proven fact

One thing that Quarterman fails to take into account is that the people he might talk to in order to follow up on the sheriff's office might just be minimum wage newbies who don't know how to figure out who has done what.

If you call the government asking questions, do you really think you are going to get a definitive straight and honest answer? Or are you going to get James Quarterman's daughter?

When was the last time you got a good straight answer out of the government?

How many times have I called the government complaining about something? Do you really think they could tell you that?

There are a bunch of idiots in here and Quarterman is one of them. Don't forget that.

We should probably lay someone off before cutting everyones salary. I'm almost sure they could afford to lose 10 or more people.

They might try refurbishing the jail too. I think we could probably use a new jail but actually the old one serves the purpose.

I think the notion of every govm't worker taking a pay cut is ignorant, excessive and does nothing for the cause the DC Tax Payer group is advocating for at hand. I appreciate our law enforcement, fire and other organizations. I just had a very pleasant experience at the tag office and want to thank those folks, too. The Veteran's Day Parade is a fantastic program as are numerous others by the County's communications department. Now I've seen WSA workers take 12 hours on weekend overtime to do what could have taken 3 hours, but that is a management oversight issue, not a pay per hour issue.

All that being the said, WE DO NOT HAVE TO PASS A SPLOST TO BUILD A JAIL! Wow! Someone said it. We can build a jail without passing a SPLOST. In fact, there would be far more accountability on the part of tax payers were our County government to ask us to pass a bond referendum specifically for the purpose of building a jail and in a specific amount. Nowhere does it inscribed on some stone tablet that jail funding has to come from SPLOST.

So there you have it. I voted last week. NO to the SPLOST. Everyone I know is voting NO to the SPLOST. The case hasn't been made. There have been too many sneaky behind-the-scenes misdeeds and underhanded scare tactics employed in this process for me to believe it is on the up and up. After this SPLOST fails, next step will be to replace those Commissioners who have brought it before us 3 TIMES.

Scott, I glad you are confident the SPLOST will fail again. I wish I was so confident. The key to defeat is voter turn out. Tell you friends and neighbors to VOTE NO!.

If they DO NOT VOTE - The tax will pass.

I think it should be an absolute rat hole with no privileges so no one wants to ever go there. What a concept.

Yeah, but the law won't allow for that. Sounds good but you have to treat humans at least humanely. I think its fine the way it is. Sometimes government wants to tear down buildings instead of refurbishing them I think.

If you are refering to cars driven by county and city officers those are paid for with Drug money or they are taken from drug dealers. Tax payers do not buy those vehicles.

Hey,moron, city, county, state and federal vehicles are bought with general fund money, which includes our property tax money. Look in the approved budgets for governments to see how many millions it cost taxpayers. Only a few, special vehicles are paid for with seized, drug money.
